OK, here's the scenario. I was driving in 3rd gear at 4500 rpm and then i hit the gas and BANG!!! my flywheel blew apart. blew up my bellhousing, my clutch, pressure plate, put a hole in my rear bumper from the clutch fork, ripped the compressor housing off of my turbo and destroyed the turbine blades, destroyed my radiator and fans, ripped various hoses in the engine compartment to pieces, put a 2 inch dent in my firewall, put a hole in my front bumper,. HOW THE F*** DID THIS HAPPEN!!! i just had my engine rebuilt 2000 miles ago by altered atmosphere motorsports in gaithersburg maryland. engine rebuild consisted of pulling the engine out, doing pistons rods new crank and bearings, new injectors, timing belt and all the other normal rebuild pieces. I cant figure out how this happen. ok there are 7 bolts on the flywheel. the flywheel INSIDE of the 7 bolts is still there. everything around the bolts is on airpark rd somewhere. along with my clutch and bellhousing and various other engine pieces. any ideas how this happen?? please help

That is some considerable damage, you are lucky that nobody got hurt, I have seen cases where the flywheel cuts through half the car, demolishes the winshield, roof and anything else that stands in its way.
The centrefugal forces are very big partially due to the weight of the flywheel.
Did you have the flywheel checked for cracks, i.e. magnaflux, before the installation?

im going to guess this was not the stock flywheel

and also whoever you bought the fw from, that they will only cover the cost of THIER PART and nothing else (of course only if it was thier fault and not a bad install). been there with clutch masters :thumbdown flywheel that lost an alignment pin between 3 & 4 shift (about 5500rpm). not as bad as yours sounds detonation wise, but i did have to replace the bellhousing and pretty much everything inside up to the first gearset. sucks when the 'toy' breaks, but that is the price of playing.

If they machined it i would say that should have looked for cracks. If it blew up that quick that would mean there would have been something in sight wrong with it. And it depends on how you broke the car in. Where you nice to it in the past 2,000 miles?

DAMN! That sucks man! I want some pictures of the carnage! Better get a scatter shield for the next clutch and flywheel. Maybe I will get one too.

Yes, please LOL i recommend to EVERYONE that they get a scatter shield. I'm lucky i didnt lose a leg or something. and i'll upload some pictures as soon as i get up to the shop to take some.

Yes! Pictures of the carnage please!

Sorry to hear about what happend to your car, just glad knowone got hurt.

Sorry for your lose. Please post or send pictures to me directly and if you have any questions use this address. three_speed@ comcast.net.

Please consider investing in a ThreeSpeed scatter shield.

We make at least one for every model (including the EVO) and have been doing since 1999.

that sucks to hear but ive heard so many horror stories about stock flywheels doing that....one guy had part of it stuck in his passenger seat...never lighten your flywheel...you would think machining it wouldnt hurt but i wont even do that on a car thats not stock...good thing youre ok though :thumb:

damn dude sorry about the bad luck good thing your girl or best freind wasnt in the car if it would have came throw the fire wall that would have been hard to deel with my girl just said shes not riding with me were do i get a scatersheald please pm me thanks
