I am looking at a 1g gst that has 110k miles and is auto. How safe would it be to flush the transmission on it, without knowing when the previous one was done? would flushing it this late have a chance of harming anything?

Thanks.

If you know it hasn't been done before than don't do it. Flushing out the trans will clean it out, but where all the gunk was before will cause the moveable parts to wear faster. Bad explanation, but basically when you flush out a trans that has never been flushed out before your taking all the buildup out. Without that buildup around certain moveable parts, they will begin to slosh around and wear out faster. The buildup keep worn parts in place.

I have talked to some o f the guys at ipt about my trans which is at about 140k with little fluid changes.

They said, it's always a good idea to get new fluid in there. BUT, DO NOT FLUSH. Just drain and refill with a good fluid and maybe a bottle of black lube guard. Then also do a new pan gasket and filter. Then maybe end clutches, shift kit, manual valve, fluid cooler, and temp gauge. Haha. you don't have to do all that, thats just my list.

But new fluid isn't bad, just DO NOT flush it.

exactly right. its kinda wierd but true my friend trashed his tranny in his car by having it flushed. his tranny went out around 2 weeks later

i worked at an oil change when i was younger and we had to make ppl sign a waiver if it was over a 100k...i did a flush myself on my dd and it wasnt a good idea it lasted prob another 1000k miles and i blew it right out....but new fluid is always a good idea..
