I've had a fluidamper on my car for some time now, I was just wondering what I'm supposed to use for the timing marks. There's the three dots on the front. And then there's the notch on the belt side. both of which are very difficult to see whne trying to set the timing. I just got dsmlink and I need to set the timing, and I can't even see the marks on this dang thing.

You don't actually use the dampner as an timing alignment mark. Just use the gears. When you use a timing light, you will see the reflection of the light.

No, All the gears, except the oil pump if you do Not have balance shafts. That's how you do timing. The dampner has an alignment mark/hole and that is how it lines up and mates up with the crank.

I think you're thinking of setting up the timing belt. the belt's on and the car runs well. But I need to see whatever mark is on the crank pulley to set ignition timing with the timing light pointed at the pulley with the car running. obviously not going to see the gears with the covers on.

GSXitment you must of gotten a unrevised version of the fluidampr crank pulley thats was developed by Horschel Motorsports. Did you buy it used? I had the same issue with mine, to correct this problem, set the motor to TDC on #1, find TDC mark on the plastic front cover, get some whiteout and mark the fluidampr crank pulley directly inline with the TDC mark, just make a nice visabile dot on the crank pulley, so when you set base timing you'll be able to see the mark. Connect the timing light to #1, ground the timing tab on DSMlink to set base timing, adjust the cas till you reach 5 degrees BTDC.

Thank you. Yes, I bought this damper in 2005 or early 06. I had figured it was something along those lines. Thanks for the insight. 5* you say...time to grab the laptop! Thanks again!:thumb:

Set ignition timing off the mark on the plastic front cover, not by what Dsmlink "timing" says. Ive seen people "try" and do it on DSMlink and obviously its completly wrong. Set it too 5 degrees BTDC and you should be on your way.

When you're logging with the timing grounded, it always read at 5. That tricked me once. Lol!
