got a low profile floorjack that does the job fine the front cross section of the car, however, I'm having problems with the rear. the jack will reach under the car where the service manual specify but the "pump bar" isn't long enough to reach past the bumper of the car for me to "pump' the jack. Is there another way of doing this?

6-8 Inch 3/8 ratchet extension, pickle fork, long screw driver. Anything that can fit in the hole and act as a lever.

Or depending on what your doing, you can get some jack stands (must have anyway if your going to be under the car) and lift up each side individually. Stacked 2X6's also work for this purpose if your not taking the wheels off, just stack and place under the wheels. suitable as long as your not going high enough for it to be unstable.

You can't even do short pumps to get it started or you can't reach the pumping leaver? Jack it from the side just in front of the rear tire. Always use proper ack stands!

Are you trying to say that the jack is at max height before it's able to lift the car? If so, use a short piece of 4x4 (not too long or it'll be really unstable). As the others have already stated, jack stands are a must. I would also recommend the use of chock blocks because, well, you never know....

i go straight in from the back (giggity) and jack from the rear diff (awd) or subframe (fwd). that way i get an even lift & jackstands slide right in to the rear/subframe outer points.

every time i go from the side the butter-made frame rails smash.
