I picked up the Punishment Racing SMIC hard pipe kit and realized the inner diameter of the pipes is larger than the inner diameter of the throttle body/gasket. Since it's a flanged UICP there's no neck down to the throttle body diameter, it's just a shelf or lip inside the pipe basically. How much is this going to hurt performance? My goals are only ~350 awhp so I don't really need a larger throttle body or intake manifold, but the sudden change in inner diameter has me wondering if I should do it anyway when I'd rather not. The difference appears to be about 1/2" diameter but I have not measured because I'm daily driving the car.

There should be no reason why it would affect you shooting for 350awhp. Think of the numerous people that have bought the exact same thing you have and made that much power easily, if they can do it so can you. You can also buy a coupler that will reduce it and provide better fitment if it bothers you that much.

The biggest thing worrying me here is the goal of 350whp using a SMIC.

Can you do it? Yeah, you can get on the dyno and make the power real fast.
Can you really race effectively with it? Not really, my talon with the apex-i GT FMIC was knocking due to heatsoaking the FMIC from 1st-2nd-3rd pulls.. On the track I ended up going through in 4th gear so it was always me praying I didn't have enough knock to force me to get out of it. my talon was right around the 320-350whp ballpark too.

Didn't even see it was a SMIC. Unless going with the supra sidemount(is that even enough?) you need a front mount for sure to reach your goal or like clinical said, you will heatsoak.

I've seen it done locally.

Doesn't matter anymore anyway, my power goals changed. Thanks for input everyone.

I'd not be too fond of that aspect of the part. I have a similar situation going on with my setup, only it's on the exhaust side. The driveability changes are not drastic, but they're noticeable and for the worst. No change in top end power, but low end is just plain dead and then when I get to 3k, not boosting, I get a mild sensation of being put back in my seat. I suppose that's just when the exhaust stream has enough energy to overcome the limitations of it's housing(s). I can't imagine having this situation on the intake side would be terribly different?
