My driver's side door guard trim piece is sagging and obviously missing a clip or two (pic shows this). How do I go about fixing it? I don't know how these things are attached, and I don't want to break something just trying to rip it off. I know atleast one clip is MIA. Where can I get new ones? Gross details on what I'm dealing with would be appreciated!

remember there are three clips holding up the door strake. it clear someone broke the front new ones from the dealer probably cost under a buck. Just an fyi ive been using window weld on my side skirts for over 3 years now to keep the door caps on!!! and they havent fallen off yet. If you get the clips though just take it all off and get some 3m tape give it a good clean before applying and your done.

The eclipses don't have the door guards, right? And there aren't any Talon dealerships anymore. Should I go to a Chrysler dealership and order them? If you know the part name or number, I can search for an online vendor. Also, how do I remove the rest of the clips? Just pull and they pop loose?

Thanks for the info, and keep it coming if you know more.:thumb:

if its anything like how the bottom door caps are its pretty simple you can just slide it either left or right to unhook the clips from the strakes. then you can use pliers to pop out the clip gromets. im going by the bottom cap though. never actually took off the strake but i dont see why it would be any different. any chrysler dealer can get you those clips. you should even try jnztunning i bet they can get em too.

I sent you an PM, but to answer your question:
- 4 clips holding the big piece on the door
- 2 clips holding the small piece of the quarter panel.

Get replacement clips or just pop the whole thing off with a butter knife and window weld the whole thing in place.

P.s. mine are no longer on my car.

Got your PMs Dee. Thanks. I replied.

Below is a picture of what I'm thinking is involved. But I'm still confused. One of you says pull straight off, the other says slide to the side then pop off (keyhole-style). If I can pop the strake or starke or whatever off somehow knowing I won't damage either the door or the trim piece, I'll know what the clip looks like. But I'm still scared. :tease::coy:

Here's the link to the part (box of 15 for $15):

And this is cool and a PITA as a 2gb :talon:-only thread...there are 1239857298375193875 vendors selling Eclipse parts, and this ain't one of em.

I'm only a 2gb fake :( Glad you got your problem answered Mack.

Lol...but I haven't...not quite yet. Did you pull the trim off the doors ever? Remember what you had to do? I won't know for certain what the fasteners are like until I pull the trim off, but I am scared to death I'll break something I don't want to break.

I guess you could slide it off and the take the retainers out. I poped mine out. You won't damage the door at all, the retainers are pushed on to the door pretty tight. You may break or crack the trim piece in half, if you don't pop it at once. I would suggest that you take all the glue off the sides and then try to slide it off in all 4 directions (and see if it comes off). If it doesn't, then just pop it off.

Not to hack this tread, but nothing wrong with that! I'm a 2gba rear Talon with 2Gb Eclipse front and (hopefully with 2Gb eclipse side skirts soon). I love my bumper on my car though. :D

so they way im describing it is like this. theres clip if you attach the clip to the strake..its sliding left and right. but the other end of the clip goes into the door..that part is a square hole in the door thats pushed in.so if you pull straight off the clip comes off out the door, but you risk the chance of the clip breakign the tabs on the strake. sliding might be harder because theres 4 clips which are ###### old anyways get it now. its both. pull and slide just pull im sure its nothing some glue cant fix.

Here's what I think you guys are saying.

There are three types of parts involved: door, clip, and strake. The door has holes in it that the clip can pop into. The strake has slots that the clip can slide into (keyhole-style or similar). So when you put the strake on at the factory, someone slid in four clips into four slots on the inside of a strake and popped the tips of the clips through the four holes in the door panel (ignoring the adhesive stuff).

So if I pull the strake straight out, either the clip will pop out of the hole in the door, the clip will break leaving half in the door and half in the strake, or the slot in the strake will break leaving the clip in the door and a piece of the strake plastic lying on the floor.

If possible, I might be able to slide the strake so that all of the clips slide out of their slots and come off with the clips still inside the door. But the adhesive might not let this happen very easily or at all. But I might be able to pry the strake and door away from the adhesive and then slide the strake.

But...if I pull the strake off without breaking the strake in half (even if it breaks the slots and/or clips), then I can probably still reconnect the strake to the door with adhesive even if I don't use the clips.

Am I on the right track here? Am I a big baby?:D

You got it! :thumb:

yesssss!!!!eureekaa!!! sorry im at work so an in depth breakdown is impossible but you have it on the money the door caps are the same way.

mine broke off when my buddy took it off for painiting and we ordered one from the dealership and for some reason they found one and sent it over. i didn't know dealerships can still carry these things, but if you want clips give them a try.

Did the clips look like this:

Well, those aren't the right clips. I got the front one out of the strake. The part in the strake slot is square. Then there is an outer part that is round (like the image above), but the part that pops through looks like it's three thin pieces that come together like the three fingers in a drill chuck, and each has a hook to grab the door panel. All 3 were busted off of the front clip, but I could see that the 2nd clip had one left and was somewhat supporting the strake...and it was pretty tight in there to pop the clip out to get a better look and then get it back in, so I left it in. I'll see if the Chrysler dealership has any clips like it, but I'm not holding my breath.

WINDOW WELD!!!! and 3m tape and call it a day man.

I'd rather be able to remove the strake so that they can be pulled of if/when being painted. I'll save it as my final option.

Sooo does anybody have pics of the clips needed? I need to get my sideskirts on.

I'll try to remember to take a picture. I have one of the broken ones off, but if I get others off without breaking them, I'll try to post a pic. They look kind of like the white one I posted above sort of, but they're black and have other differences. I don't think the white ones will work.

This looks like it might be the right clip.

I have a broken one in hand, and everything looks IDENTICAL. The rectangular head dimensions match. I think the tip of the clip is like a partially closed umbrella without the fabric. Not sure, because mine's broken off. I'll try to get a picture, but it'll look EXACTLY like the picture except that the tip is missing (bottom part in picture). Has the four bumps on the edges, hole in the middle of the rectangle, black, slightly domed round disk, etc.

What a PITA to find, though. Hope it works out.

Thats good stuff there bro. I think those black ones are what I am looking for. There not cheap either at 8$ for 5. Oh well the cheap ones I got from Autozone sucked and were not worth it to me. Lets hope these ones do the trick..

I searched a bit more for other sites offering the same fasteners (the one above is mail/phone/fax only). I found the site below, accepts paypal, similar price. I got 10 fasteners shipped for $22 USPS ground. They may have fasteners for the 1g talon/laser guys that aren't used on the eclipses. Hopefully they get here in a reasonable period of time.

Searching for part number MB567798 which is cross referenced to part 19814 will probably find other vendors. That site seems to have a buttload of fasteners!

Auto Discount Fasteners

I picked up a decal remover kit from Autozone that came with a paint-safe scraper for removing the old adhesive from the strake/door. When the clips arrive, I'll see if I can get this fixed.

I know this is an old thread, I'm looking for the clips for the door strakes or if someone has found an alternative that works as well. Mitsubishi or Chrysler part numbers are a huge plus
