alright my car right now is being driven around with no transfer case, no driveshaft or anything that will transfer power to the rear differential. So it's basically FWD.

I have a Used Transfer Case sitting in my gargage right now. And i was wondering, Instead of waiting for all the proper parts and then installing it and everything and THEN taking it to mitsu dealership to get the recall done, since its out of the car right now and everything can i perform the recall myself? I mean is the transfer case the ONLY part of the recall that takes place?

Or if i cant do it myself can i just take the transfer case to the dealership and have them fix the transfer case instead of taking my car away from me for a week.

In order for the recall to be done, the transfer case must be on the car. If you have to, have the car towed to the dealership. Its the only way your going to get it done. They will not do it off the car :talon:

gotcha ;)

but is the recall that hard to do? is it difficult to seal the leaky parts of the xfer case? if not i can just do it myself cause mitsu dealership just closed by my house so now i have to drive pretty far to get it done

STOP DRIVING YOUR CAR WITHOUT A TRANSFER CASE!

You should never drive a dsm without a transfer case unless you have a welded center differential.

If you don't you have probably messed up your viscous coupler.

Listen, the only people that can do the recall is the dealership. Not you. If you try and do it, you will void it. I dont know for sure what they do with the recall, but mine locked up on me and i got a new one for nothing. If it isnt locked up, i dont know if they just replace the seals or just give you a new t-case. Im not sure, but i do know that you cant do it yourself. Only the dealer can do it. Im assuming that yours is locked up beings you took it off of the car, otherwise you would have left it on. So reinstall it on the car and have it towed to the dealership :talon:

no, the previous owner had the wheels locked up on him, the transfer shaft broke, along with the transfer case. And for i have no idea how long hes been driving it with nothing there, so basically that vcu thing is broken i guess. I dont know what that is, but if someone could explain to me exactly whats going on right now with it not hooked up i would appreciate it.

As of right now its still like that, but in my garage i have a USED transfer case, not a broken transfer case, but just a used one, in other words, a LEAKY ONE. I just recieved the shaft i've been waiting for so now i can install the AWD on it. Then take it to the dealership to get the recall done on it with this other transfer case. I wonder what they'll have to say about having a different transfer case in it. But if they dont fix it i'll just be going through transfer cases my whole life cause they'll just keep breaking and locking up and almost killing me if i'm on the freeway when it happens.

Seriously though someone explain to me exactly whats happening right now with nothing hooked up. Something to do with vcu u said before? what is the VCU? and whats happening to it or i should say what happened to it since its probably broken by now.

They wont be able to tell so that wont be a problem.

The VCU is the viscous coupling unit in the center differential. I really dont know how having the t-case off could affect that but im not sure. I have a 90 Tsi AWD and i had it FWD before but i only took the driveshaft off and pluged the t-case so it wouldnt leak all the fluid out. Actually im doing that now cuz i have a bad center diff. Ive nver had a problem doing it that way :talon:

it shouldn't hurt the viscous coupling if there is no t case plugged into the output shaft, but I'd be worried about the rear end ... I didn't think you can just pull the driveshaft out and have it not leak or lock up. Otherwise everyone would pull off the driveshaft and t case to dyno.

ya i was thinking the same thing, but i gurantee u u lose TONS of power by doing what my car is doing right now, the low end power on the car right now is just stupid, first and second gear u barely move any, and i'm sure it affects high gears as well. If u wanted to tell ur actual car power u wouldnt do that cause it would give u low ass numbers. I mean i guess u could do it and then just tell everyone u have more than whats on the dyno sheet LOL.

Thats what i thought to. I really dont see how it could hurt the vcu or anypart of the center diff but i could be wrong. When u take out the driveshaft, its impossible for the rear diff to leak fluid. It just bolts up to it. It doesnt seal it like it does to the t-case. The rear diff is a sealed unit where the driveshaft mounts up so it doesnt matter how much u have it off :talon:

Thats not true. If your loosing power by doing that then theres something else wrong. My car is currently FWD and i have no loss of power. Now granted, i sure as hell miss my AWD cuz i have no traction what so ever. I get traction in 5th gear thats it. It sux bigtime. The handleling isnt the best without it either. The only thing u should be loosing is traction and offcourse speed without the AWD :talon:

alright well something is wrong then because i have hardly any power in lower gears. But when i put the awd back in and it works fine, then we'll know what made it do it.
