A little background: I'm in the Air Force, stationed in Aviano, Italy....Italians wouldn't know what AutoX was if they saw it, all they do here is rally race, which is cool too. Anyways, we've got a car club on base that has some Italians but mostly American Military like myself. We got approval from base safety and the commander to race on base. We decided not to do the typical drag racing, but to do something in my opinion much better, AUTOX! Oh, and it's all free, we just had to work the track, I did mainly corner work and timing.
This was my first time doing it and I think I did pretty well. I had the best overall time, it was a VERY short course, this was our first time setting up anything like this, next time around, the track is going to be significantly longer. I was running against a couple Ferrari's, two C5 Vettes, random Honda/Acura cars, some Italian made cars, old Mustangs, Nissans, Porsches, etc. Granted none of us are pro drivers either.
Learned alot about my car, had alot of fun, and I think I've found my "calling." I'd much rather do AutoX than drag racing, any day of the week. Learned that shitty Italian brand high mileage tires don't work that well. If I had stickier rubber I would have done alot better. So my next mods are certain: Falken Azenis tires, front/rear tower braces, front/rear sway bars, Energy bushings, etc. That should get me going pretty good.
The video quality isn't horrible, but not the best either, done on my Kodak digicam. Enjoy!
