I've got $300 to spend on my first mod (thats first, not only). I've got a tsi awd. I dont know if I want to do the maf-t conversion for $270, or a full custom 3" turbo back exhaust (including custom o2 housing) for $280.

which will give me better gas mileage? better spool time? and most hp for stock psi? thanks in advance.

A big factor is your goal with the car. The MAFT is an awsome upgrade for high hp engines and also give you a way to tune the air flow signal. I don't think it will yeild any hp on a stock platform though. The exhaust will though. But when you get that exhaust, you'll also need a form of boost control and an aftermarket boost gauge. That means an additional $100 at the least.

I closed your post, so you post again. Fine.

First mods: Boost gauge, Boost controller, air filter, intake pipe, tune up (plugs/wires/oil)

You COULD get the exhaust, but without the basics, you won't know when the little 14b creeps up to high and you risk damaging your motor.

You COULD get the MAFT, but what good is fuel tuning when you don't even know what boost you are running and are still on a stock fuel system?

Again, the tuning guide is there for a reason. Feel free to use it.

i'm going for 12's on the stock 14b. i'll everything i want within 2 months, but im just not sure which i want to do first. im also trying to get better gas mileage cuz i'm only getting about 16mpg.

my mods after this in the next 2 months are a fmic with 2" piping, turbo-back 3" exhaust, maft, pacesetter header, 190lph fuel pump, and 17 psi on '91 octane.

I thought you were asking if these should be your first mods. :|

i've already done a full tune up: fuel filter, air filter, plugs, plug wires, injector cleaning stuff, tranny fluid, solid shifter bushings and all that. after all that, i still get 16 mpg. i've got the boost gauge coming. i'll do the boost controller when i choose what i want to do.

this is why i'm asking what to do first. leaning out the maft should help the mpg, but a full exhaust helps gas mileage too.

How is it the turboback will help your gas milage?
Few things really help...

Tuneup the car- Already Done
Filter Change - Already Done
Lean it out - Not Done
Get off the gas pedal - Dunno if done or not.. :|
:p

I say to get the exhaust personally.

Think with any car the first thing you should do is the exhaust system. After all youre not going to benefit as much from any other upgrades until that is done right.

So ya, intake/exhuast +mbc and boost gauge

we put a downpipe on our evo, and it got 2 mpg more. thats only with a downpipe.

somebody also said that if i do my exhaust first, i'll get creep. i think creep would be very minimal, because not only am i making a bigger o2 housing, the exhaust system will have a high flow cat, glasspack, and muffler so there is still a enough back pressure to keep some creep down.

Im confused? I thought creep was caused by the wastegate not directing enough flow away from the turbine. The new o2 will help but i dont think "back pressure" would help a creep problem.

well why do people get boost creep when they do their downpipe and cat-back? because the exhaust is more free flowing. the flow would rather go to the most free flowing port, instead of the wastegate chamber. i've even read people say they dont get creep when they put their cat back on.

well i do have what i want to do to my car pefectly planned out. either way i'm going to do the exhaust and the maft, but i dont know what i want to do first. i'm just trying to find the better benifit in the mean time, before i do the other one.
