I did my first log with the Palm m105/MMCD combination. Thanks to Steve for putting up that schematic for a passive logger cable.

First things first, some info about my car. It's a stock engine, stock boost. Only mods are vac line elimination, and a apex'i 2.5 inch downpipe to a 3 inch 'catback' (no cat present) added due to a leaky stock exhaust.

The previous owner put a socketed ecu in and let a friend mess with it so there is no telling what the current settings are. I want to reprogram it to stock settings but I am having trouble finding information on exactly how to do that (what do I need to reprogram the chip, etc).

Some things I notice about my car are lifter tick, and terrible gas mileage. It is running very rich I think. I have pretty good compression, all cylinders above 150, but the oil smells like gas.

I think, by looking at the log, that my o2 sensor may not be working. Also I get knock above 5000 rpms and my timing advance goes down. Is there a way to tell why this happens? Are there any other parameters I should be logging? What do you think?

Hi. The reason your getting poor gas mileage and you smelling gas in your oil is because your o2 sensors are bad. Before replacing them, inspect your car for any loose connections or broken wires. If everything looks good, replace you o2 sensors. The same thing happened in my friends eclipse. He tried to hook up an o2 simulator and did it incorrectly. He got about 14 mpg and his oil smelled like gas. Once he installed it right, his car ran like a champ. Have fun replacing those o2 sensors :thumb:

to return the ecu to stalk you can buy a stalk chip and just remove the old one sense its socketed already or you could burn your own if you buy a chip burner, i bought my own and iv been making chips for myself as well as lots of my Friends. if you buy one you can get the factory setting data files off the internet. iv seen lots of messed up chips with big holes in the fuel maps and just wacko settings done bye amiture :nono: s.

I'll replace the o2 sensor soon and that should improve things a bit.

What chip burner are you using to burn chips? I've looked around and the only ones that I can find are pretty expensive. I know there are also some other ways to do it involving a network card but I'm not too interested in that.

Also, where might I find a stock chip that I can buy?

Because you just wont it stock and dont want to mess around with the ecu (yet) it would be a lot cheaper to have a frend do it cuz lots of them on the intornet are advanced, I could make one for you if you have paypal for like 10$

johnwohl- Are you sure the o2 is plugged in/properly/wires aren't mangled or shorting? What does it show when you are idleing (should be flashing around .20 to .80 or so). Replacing that o2 sensor will make a world of difference, and I'd do it anyway if it has more than 60 or 70k miles on it. Are you getting part throttle knock, as in super high counts = 43? Turn your logger on when you are just cruising around. If your lifters are causing phantom knock it will kill your timing and your gas mileage as much as that o2 sensor.
