alrite i got a 97 GSX and i just installed my clutch like 2 weeks ago....SBR racing clutch....and everything is fine til my first gear keep poping back and i dont think it have anything to do with the SBR clutch being install. I would put it in first then it would just came back to neutral. Im guessing its my synchrose but it doesnt grind when i go into it but it wouldnt stay in first. But i really dont know. So whats wrong with my tranny? and how much it will usually cost to fix it? Please reply thanx
 
my brother had that problem with his clutch. but he just needed to take it to a guy he knows and he adjusted the clutch for him. his clutch was to loose. maybe you need to do that. im not sure. just a thought. not totaly sure if im rite but ya know.

i mean the rest of my gears are fine just the first one.....did all of your bro's gears pop out or just one?
 
the 1st gear gears could be rounded so that it dosent stay in gear. does it grind at all when you put it into 1st gear. the 1st gear gear set may need to be replaced. good luck
 
it doesnt grind when i go into it but it grinds when it pop back out.....well not really, it wouldnt grind unless i try to push it back. But if i put in first gear and let go , it just go back to neutral. but if i put it in first gear and then hold it, then it grinds when it come back to neutral. Either way going into is fine just it pops back and wouldnt stay in first.

And how much does it cost to replace the first gear set? cuz i dont wanna get rip off my the mechanic and not ppl around here know alot about DSMs so yea.
 
with my brothers. he would be like driving and it would be in first and it would just like. slip out of it. and he would have to put it back into gear again. then shortly after that it started to just not even stay in gear. so he had to start in second.
thats what happend to him. not saying thats the problem. just trying to relate to see if its doing the same thing.

Hahaha...thats exactly what happen to me..now im drivng in like 2nd gear but im not gonna drive my car now cuz i dont wanna start with 2nd gear. And yes i did change the clutch release fork and pivot ball when i changed my clutch.

But yea Redg1clipse...your describing exactly what happen to my car....so to solve this i need to get my clutch adjusted?
 
Usually jumping out of only 1 gear can be one of several things. Trans bearings worn which create mis-alignment or the locks inside the hub are rounded off. Either one means a trans repair.

If all the above mentioned things have not resolved your situation, then you may have one of these.

Bad synchros also mean removal of the transmission and a complete tear down to access them. The gears have to come off of the shafts. Soooooooooo, like I said it's a good time to replace all consumable parts. IE, bearings, synchros and lock clips. Etc.

Well that really depends on where you have the work done.
You should be able to find info here (I had Shepherd Racing do mine)
I had the same problem with mine, it added about $100 to the build because 1st gear needed to be replaced do to the ware on it.
 
I am having the same problem (grinding and popping out of first), but it is starting to do the same in second. I just spent almost $1,500 on my tranny rebuild. Everything is new, this guy had it apart at least 4 times, and he doesn't know what's wrong. It feels like the clutch isn't engaging all the way. It also grinds a little when it goes into 5th... PLEASE HELP!!!
