99 eclipse (fifth keeps popping out of gear?)

My 99 eclipse keeps popping out of fifth gear when you hit the acceleration. So not sure if it's the sychronizer, or the shifting forks? It is worse at higher speeds, and when its warm. All I have to do is push down a little on the gas and it pops out of gear. Also, I haven't ever taken the transmission out of one of these, can anyone tell me if its a pain in butt? Thanks.

My firend had that problem then he ended up in some trouble one of the gears busted through the side of the tranny, ahah this prob didnt help ya to much. just though i would post it

well I plan on taking the transmission out this weekend. Hopefully that won't happen. That would SUCK.

I know on the turbo cars there is a cover that you can remove. In the cover there is the fith gear shaft and sometimes the big nut on this shaft comes loose.

You might try taking your cover off and seeing if the nut needs to be tightened back up.

I don't know what is causing the problems on the 99n/t but it could be something similar.

thanks for the info, I will check the bolt first. Cause it doesn't pop out unless I push on the gas. I can drive 70 without it popping out, it only does it if I have to push down to go up a hill, pass, ect. Thanks again.

the same thing happens to me but with 4th. it happens as soon as i put it in and let off the clutch. it'll just pop out. it rarely happens but it still gets on my nerves. i was told it was the syncros

mine will stay in gear, only pops out when I push on the gas

Yea this happened to me too. In fact i had a hole punched through the case and I just patched it up and kept driving it. Now I just don't have 5th, with the car off I can put it in gear but it will just grind if I try to put it in moving. Sucks, oh well who needs 5th?

possibly try adjusting your clutch pedal, but most likely a sign of bad syncros
