another first gear popping out (?)

I have done some searching and i see that there is alot of people with this problem where 1st gear pops out as our letting go of the clutch that only thing that i did not see from other people, is that in my situation I can go to my car and started put it in 1st gear and drive off with no problem then what i've tried doing is while still in first gear i accelerate and let go off the gas and the gear will still be in place then i shift into sencond and third...
I can do this two times after that not even if i hold it in place it will not stay in there, well it actually fill like it not even getting all they way in because i cannot feel and ingaugment point really.
so do you guys think my problem is just the same as every one elses or does it sound more like a shift linkage,motor mounts and or those two nuts inside the tranny like the 1g dsm problem?

I used to have that problem in my 2g. The syncros for the gears were worn from years of abuse. I learned to drive it by holding it in gear for 1st, 2nd, and even 3rd gears! I did end up replacing the syncros and haven't had a problem since.

As for the shifting linkage & other issues, I'm sure that can happen, but if you've never harrassed it- chances are your syncro gears are worn (check out www.howstuffworks.com for how a manual tranny works)

I think at this point you're better off just learning how to drive with the problem for now (hold it firmly in gear) and saving up a good chunk of change for a tranny rebuild through www.shepracing.com or what have you.

Wouldn't it poping out of gear be a shifter fork? I would also check the shift cables just because it alot easyer and maybe god likes you. But I wouldnt go buying a shep trans just yet, knowing that most DSMers ae poor and cheap you might consider a DIY. I replaced a syncro and it wasnt that hard.



I used my "dsm backup manual cd" & vfaq. I orderd my parts from TRE. I hear there is a mitsu dealer in cali that sells transmission parts for a decent price i can find the website if you are really interested
