Hey all,

So I'm picking up my buddys super clean 97 GSX eclipse. Has had tranny swapped and another motor in(same 4g63 7 bolt). Guy before blew the motor from not enough oil (smart). Well I'm looking at a nice JDM motor 7 bolt to swap in.. Is this a direct swap? Or will my mechanic have some issues to deal with? Really new to the DSM world, but I have alot of experience with Subaru engines

Heres the jdm in question

Here are some pics of the car!

Don't take this as bashing, but I'm just curious as to why you want a JDM motor as opposed to USDM? The only significant difference is the Cyclone intake manifold which you can swap on anyways if you want. That just gives more low and mid range torque and sacrifices just a little off the top. Sounds like a sales pitch to me but if the price is not over the top then there is no reason not to buy it since they are practically identical.
Edit: Just saw the eBay post, that price isn't too bad but you could do better.

I was told the JDM has forged internals? Eitherway doing a swap seems like the quicker and cheaper way then pulling apart the block, re-building, and putting it back in.

Not to mention, JDM one was a good price it seemed? I couldnt really find any others on ebay.

Yea I speed read and didn't see it had blown my bad haha No that price is fair, but there is no JDM eclipse or talon motors. Lots of eBay guys just put that there because the car is Japanese.

Also any forged pistons would be aftermarket. The only forged internals in stock 4G63's are in EVOs. Have you thought about doing a 6bolt swap? They'll hold 450whp reliably on stock internals if your tune is good.

This motor looks cleaner and comes with a trans and t-case for not much more: http://www.ebay.com/itm/JDM-4G63-Engine-with-AWD-5-speed-transmission-7-Bolt-95-97-Type/271517786683?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid=222007&algo=SIC.MBE&ao=1&asc=20131003132420&meid=2c87d9abc4de454c906d229dcfa1599a&pid=100005&rk=5&rkt=6&sd=251899506925&rt=nc
This looks fine too: http://www.ebay.com/itm/97-MITSUBISHI-ECLIPSE-Engine-2-0L-w-turbo-VIN-F-8th-digit-thru-3-2-97/171690266093?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid=222007&algo=SIC.MBE&ao=1&asc=20131003132420&meid=9504155c3fc84af0aa0cee15fd687570&pid=100005&rk=5&rkt=6&sd=281702593015&rt=nc

Read this so you know difference between 95-96 & 97-99 (2Ga & 2Gb): http://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/2gb-vs-2ga.350563/

If there are no metal shavings in the turbo you have now you could salvage that as well.

You can build one hell of a motor for $1900.

Sure there are a lot of parts on that thing that you probably don't need- like a turbo that's as small as the one you already have, a power steering pump that you already have, and timing components that need changed....but nothing there adds up to near $2000 in value.

Right, like Justin said theres a lot of extraneous parts you dont need. I say find a part out or someone on the forums here trying to get rid of one then just build it on the engine stand and when it''s done then drop it in. Maybe contact stangmurdera (Steve of Miller Import Parts) on here and see if he has anything for you. Great seller to deal with. He takes care of his customers.
