So it's a 95 degree day out when we get to the track after making our way through the traffic... no more A/C in the car made that pretty enjoyable. :| It's 5:30pm and they're letting people run right away. I knew the car was still hot but I tried it anyway. Ran a 13.5 and quickly realized it was just too damn hot. Had to let the car cool down.

After an hour or so of parking the car and watching some friends run I jumped back in. Ran a few more low 13's and decided to turn the boost up a little more (to about 16 lbs). Ran a 12.9 at 107. Not bad considering it was still pretty hot out and I haven't driven this car at the strip in almost a year. I can't seem to get the shifts down cleanly for some reason - though my windshield wipers kept turning on at the 1st to 2nd shift LOL!

Anyway, midway through the evening I started getting a pretty bad misfire so I just parked it. I ended up running a 12.7 @ 109 with 17 lbs of boost. I had just put in a few gallons of 100 octane when it started misfiring so I never got to try a run with 19-21 lbs like I was hoping. At first I was thinking it was bad fuel. Filled up on the way home and still had the same problem. I'll be checking the plugs and a few other things in the next few days. Not the best time I've had at the track, but I feel pretty good with how the car felt overall, especially knowing that I have a long way to go with tuning, boost levels, and my lack of drag racing skills. I managed a few 1.8 60' times, but I'd like to get that down to a low 1.7 with some more practice.

Chris,

I'm sure with a few more runs you'll be howling down the track, especially with the goodie parts in your setup. I was just wondering, prior to the misfire, why you weren't yanking on the boost a bit more since you have more than adequate air charge cooling with an FMIC and such? Also, at what RPM where you shifting? Nevertheless, I hear you on the 60's and I'm slowly feeling more in tune with an AWD launch and hoping for those low 1.7's as well.

Looking forward to feedback from your next trip!

Andy

Rubber band around the top of steering column to the turn signal! Yes it's embarrassing turning off the damn wipers during a run!

I was running 91 octane in the initial runs, which is why I was running conservative on the boost. Once I dumped in some 100 octane the misfiring started and prevented me from being able to crank it up.

Yeah, I thought it was embarrasing turning off the wipers when hitting pothole on the street. Imagine switching them off on every freakin pass down the track. What a pain!
