first attempt at metal work, AFC flush mount plate

I couldn't post in any other forums cause I'm still a newb. But I wanted to share my first attempt at some metal work. I made the plate to mount my AFC in out of some air duct sheet metal I found in my garage. I used a fender saw, dremel tool with a carbide bit and a drill with various size bits. I covered it using an old black t-shirt i had because I was out of black vinyl. Covering it help me cover up imperfections since I'm not a pro. Any way just wanted to share. Going to try a heat shield for the exhaust mani. next. Oh and for every one who wonders why no one makes these with vents for a/c and heat like i did. Its because it would be way more trouble than its worth. In the pic with the vice, in the back you'll see my first attempt with vents. I ended up blocking off the air duct, and the side vents now put out plenty of air.

Here is the heat shield I made today. Covered the bottom in heat tape, don't know that it will help much but I had laying around so I tried. So here are the pics from cardboard to metal it took about 2 hours with paint drying and every thing. Sorry the pics are crappy took them with my antique Nextel phone.

Just duplicolor gloss black engine paint. 500 degree I believe, hopefully it wont peel. Yea I laughed at myself too. But I couldn't see buying a whole square yard of vinyl for a project that needs less than a square foot. I'll recover it when I need to buy some for something else. Or when I cut the back out of my roommates black leather Jacket. I wonder how long it would take him to notice.

I burnt up my fathers welder last week trying to work on some exhaust. The polarity switch arched and melted a hole bunch of stuff inside it. But it was one of those Harbor Freight $140.00 jobs. I'll have to buy him a better one.

Not sure how well that heat tape on the inside will do, hopefully it won't burst into flames after a few hard pulls.
