so I just got my 1998 talon fwd safetied and insured..... I drove about 200 km's and the driver side rear shock mount disintegrated.

I'm thinking "no biggie" I'll buy all round for both of my Talons because such a simple piece shouldn't be hard to find.... well dammit it appears it is.

1st off I go to RockAuto.com and they claim to have the parts I need.... they also claim that the mount is for both front and back so I'm just about to order 8 of them when I realise "wtf" the front mount has 3 studs while the back has 2.... their is no way it's a universal part.

now the agony begins..... every online retailer is making the same damn claim and pretty much pushing the same Mevotech part which is not universal.

I tried to contact Mevotech which failed misreably... I was hoping to ask how the universal concept could possibly work.

so at this point I call Chrysler to get a price and it's a huge one... well comparatively speaking for what I'm getting it's huge.... .$27 for the front mount $83 for the back.... aaargh while certainly not going to kill me it's bs I think I could get the parts fabbed from scratch for that so I look into Mitsubishi and it's pushing $50 per part... then I check Auto parts Way Canada and they've got the rear mounts for a 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse so I figure I'll order 4.... nope they have 2 and no idea when they will get more.....

p.s. they are $12.78 each which is wonderful but I need 4, 2 for each Talon.

why is it so damned hard to find these incredibly simple pieces, why the hell can't auto retailers offer a complete "kit" instead of offering a kit that isn't complete and why in hell are they so hard to find.... their is no confusion, I had to argue with some sales guy on the phone at Auto parts warehouse because he claimed the Mevotechs were universal until I showed him the differences between the pictures.

does anyone know where I can get these F'ing parts in quantity..... it'd be great to know and on a side note I asked this because their was no thread that addressed it other than the vague.

thanks for any constructive help, it'll be appreciated and thanks for your time as the post is a partial rant.

$43.00 for the cap..... thanks for the link as it seems they have it all and if I'm in a jam I'll buy from them at a later date but I ordered 2 of the 4 caps I need from Auto Parts Way today for $12.78 each.

they have no eta on the other 2 I need but my turbo won't be going on the road for a while so I can wait...... what a pain, can't believe the hassle and variation in pricing for these parts let alone the limited availability.

NT as in another Talon?

why it would be the same problem again..... corroded parts that will fail, if I was in a bind and their were none available I'd consider it but man what a state we DSM owners would be in if left to poach junk off junkyard talons because their was no alternative.....going to a junk yard, pulling the rear end off a car just to find 2 pieces seems.... if it was my only option... that would be the moment where I should have gotten rid of the car.

I was debating making the parts by grabbing the right side cap and using it as a reference but it's just not worth it.... I'll sell the car before I do it.

after ordering the parts for $12.78 I was hoping someone knew of another retailer who had more of them for that approximate price or at least somewhere around $20 - $25 instead of the instant bump to $45 +... as mentioned just really surprised that they are so hard to find for a decent price let alone that they aren't included in the kit along with the coil seats.

check ebay, i got them for my fwd tsi last year for like 25 shipped when i did my tein coilovers.

just an update, I found the plates at AutoPartsWay for a really nice price but they only had the back plates.... less than $25 each so I bought 4 for the 2 Talons.

note: if looking for front plates be careful the online websites aren't showing the right picks and are confusing bushing kits with plates by calling them mounts.

in particular the Mevotech shocks mounts are nothing of the sort... .they are just another bushing kit, I bought 4 thinking they were the top mounts as was shown in the pics but upon receiving them I complained to RockAuto.com and they gave me a full credit and said I could keep the kits as shipping at my expense would have been B.S.

I had to complain about the return shipping before they would credit that as well but it was pretty quick when they conceded the point.
