Finally some warm weather, Start the hard part! Downpipe

Well i went back and forth with the idea of side "bumper exit" exhaust, and full exhaust. Well I mainly wanted to do full exhaust, but had some issues on a cold day, and got pissed. I was thinking about doing side exit, with a turn down behind the bumper, but i Love a challenge {which wasnt too hard when i had a warmer day}.

We are doing all the work at my buddies shop, which is building a drag talon also, ( aluminum rod, BW 366 powered,ill take pictures). Between me and him, we have about 15 years of turbo experience. His recent car, buschur racing 3065 turbo kit aem ems powered evo 9 , went deep into the 11s on pump. We got alittle business going, so it nice to have a fellow Mitsu lover.

This past weekend, we had a nice 50 degree day out, so we could open up shop and get down and dirty. This is still the rough finish. Still have to go under the pan, weld on the flex section, v-band, and get it ceramic coated.

my exhaust on the gsx is just open down pipe to the rear end and it dumps there, no rear muffle or anything

Yeah like i said, its not finished at all. Thats just were we stopped for the night.

Looks restrictive, you and your friend should invest in a tig machine or outsource you welding until then. Goodluck

How does it look restrictive? Its a 3 1/2 downpipe based off of this setup which went 10.@ 144 on 36psi on all seasons.

Like i said, still have alot of grinding to do, first downpipe ever made. Next one will be tigged, once i pick one up.

Looks like your wire feed is too high, turn it down a touch, those beads look big.

for a first one it looks great I think. And in all honesty its a pipe, it doesn't need to be pretty as long as it get the job done

I finished the full downpipe today, ill get up pictures tonight. Going to spend alittle time and clean up the welds before taking it for ceramic coating. Im happy with it, since it was the first fully custom downpipe ive ever made.

Still got some cleaning up on the welds to do before getting coated. Coilovers, and my buddys talon we are building. The guard dog also.

I will be doing this with mine soon enough once I get a mockup motor back into the car to make the 4" downpipe.
