Purchased a 94 Talon ES Non Turbo awhile ago and just got it on the road. The car is a bone stock 5 speed with orginal wheels and factory size tires. I was wondering if some of you N/T guys would tell me what your RPM is at 55mph. This is my first DSM so I'm not sure but I'm running about 2600-2650 at 55 MPH and I thought that was awful high. I know these motors like the RPM's but that seems really unnessessary. I'm getting about 23.8 mpg on short trips but it could be so much better if the motor wasn't spinning so fast. From what I can tell, 4th and 5th gear are only about 2-3 hundred RPM apart.

This pretty standard?

Thanks

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of car did you drive before?

Mostly trucks or SUV's, all automatics. My wife has a 5spd V8 mustang tho that runs about 1800-1900 @55 in 5th. That's why I wondered. I bought this car as a slider and project car back when gas was over 4 bucks a gallon as my daily driver gets about 11mpg so MPG is my biggest focus.

That sounds about right on the rpms at 55mph. 45mph in 5th will usually give you your best mpg and the engine should be about 2000-2200 rpm, but at highway speeds you will see more rpm's like you said.;)
