ok so all u guys told me the back speakers in my car were 6x9. i didnt want to have to remove the whole back area of my car so i said what the hell u guys always give me good advice so i went out i bought 6x9. paid like $110 for them.(which is a week of my pay.....just got out of high school). so yesterday i go to install them and when i get the back panel off i see there not 6x9. (the one and only time u guys were wrong and i already spent my money). the back speakers looked like 6.5 to me so i go and get an exta set of pioneer 6.5's i had and then i try to install and there to small. i was like WTF!. so i took a tape to check the size and there fu(king 7's.. who uses 7's? so now im thinking y would they use 7's in the eclipse (only car ive ever worked on that had this size). then i start to think about the weeks pay i wasted. so now im mad and looking for a way to fit these 6x9's and the only thing i can think of is to cut 2 holes in the rear hatch and fiberglass it.

so now my MAIN question is can i fiberglass the rear hatch by putting the resin right on the hatch and then add the mat on top of that? so in other words can i use the carpet in the hatch as a fleece?.

by the way these are the speakers i got. there 200 watts rms audiobahns. anyone ever use them? are they good?

they are 5X7 back there but can easily fix 6X9 just do a little trimming. thats what I and most of the people who told you to get 6x9 did. your putting way too much work into it LOL.

Wait, what? I fit my 6x9s with no trimming at all. I don't know if it's a difference between the N/T and turbo models, but at least on a 95 Talon TSi, 6x9s are correct. Either that or Pioneer speakers are just sized smaller. BTW, it really isn't that hard to get into the back.

Mine are 6x9's. The only problem i had was that the speakers i got through my work didnt fit because the magnet in the back of the speaker is too big for the space that is given. SO i am not using my aftermarket speakers, but luckily i already had after market speakers in there. If its that much of an issue for you then just return the speakers you bought, and get the size that fits. I think you have learned your lesson because you dont just take our word for it, you gotta check it out before you go buying anything. :talon: :thumb:

i fit my 6x9's in, i just had to grind down the holder a bit, there were two ridges that needed to be ground down. now it fits perfectly

well anyway u take it the 6x9's i got wont fit cause there huge it hits the tire wall and is still more than 2 inces out. i made a temp holder for the 6.5's but i still want to install the 6x9. so anyone know if i can fiberglass the hatch by doing what i said before?....ty

I don't understand where you are talking about fiberglassing. The hatch itself should be unrelated and isn't carpeted (on the non turbos I say this to the best of my knowlege)

Can you take any pictures? It would help if we could see the old speaker the new speaker, the hole and the part you want to glass.
If the magnets are too big I would think it would be easier to make a fiberglass spacer for the speaker but I don't know if you could do this without invading passenger room. I would have to go look in the back of my car and I am too lazy. :p
What modle is it? I am wondering if in the RS 6/9s were an option or something, or maybe someone already replaced them. Either way I would think there would be a removeable bracket. If it is not set up for 6X9s you might be able to get the nescary parts from a junk yard or something.

dude yeah those audiobahn speakers are like competiton status. look at that coil for that thing, its almost a subwoofer in itself, prolly a 20oz magnet in there. get some pioneer 5 ways or something and thwy should fit with a little trimming.

You want to cut holes in your hatch cover and mount the 6X9's there? That's not a good idea. Even if you do reinforce the cover with fiberglass, the resulting weight will be too much for the side supports.

Using the same chamber (the underside of the cover) for different channels (L and R) will cause some severe cancellation problems. Having a second set of rear speakers now reflecting off the rear window will contribute to some extreme phasing problems too.

Any way you can return or sell the 6X9's and pick up a subwoofer?

On a side note, if your rears are 7's, your front door speakers are probably 7's too. They are in my car.

I got them on ebay and i cant return them. The back of my car is 7's, but the front doors are 5 1/2. The dash speakers are 3's
