As some of you know my problem weeks ago was a top end knocking noise at start up and knocking noise when i reved the engine near 1500RPMs & up. Well i let my car sit for a week and today i started it and only made a rattling noise for a second at startup and no knocking when i rev it.. Well it id once or twice but faintly. i have in Mobil 1 10w-30 With a quart of lucas.

Some questions-
Could it be my EGR? How to test without taking it out?
Low oil pressure? Is there any way i can set up a gauge so i can see the PSi instead of having an "idiot light?"
Oh and i have a whitish/bluish smoke and it smells rich.. Lifter problem? timing?

Also had a CEL pulled this is what i got:
P1494- EVAP ventilation switch or mechanical fault probable cause:
1-Open or short circuit condition
2-Poor electrical connection
3-Failed vent solenoid
4-Vacuum hose plugged.
Any thoughts on this too? LOL

Did you check for metal shavings when changing the oil? Also lifter tick would be loudest at start up due to the lacking of oil in the head. Let the car idle and pull your plug wires one by one the see if the knocking stops in one cylinder. I know its not a professional thing to do but its one way to identify if you've spun a bearing. It could still possibly be lifter tick but i would check just to be sure. Dont forget to check the oil first.
Also there are a ton of threads on here with people asking the same questions you are. Try searching around a little next time.

Oh this is not a ticking, its a knock. I dropped the oil pan and checked the bearing, they look fine they are actually brand new. The noise is coming from the top end. And the startup noise is like a rapid rattling tick..?

Lifters are a common problem that can be your start up tick. They're hydraulic and take time to build up oil pressure to stop ticking. When they go bad, often they wont build up pressure so there's a large gap between the lifter and rocker.

Blue oil is a result of oil being burned. Black is fuel. White is coolant.

You can use a master gauge to test oil pressure. You remove the oil pressure switch and plug in a hose to a gauge.

Blue oil when drained or did you mean blue smoke? its a very light bluish tint to the smoke but its not constant and it smells rich more than anything, with alot of water being sputtered out of the exhaust. The oil pressure switch is the sending unit right? And thats located near the oil filter?

same issue i have new revised lifters in the mail right now, if its not those then i am completely stumped

Yours knocks at higher RPMs too? How much were your lifters? And i would do the same but there are literally no places that will even touch a foreign car and i know changing the lifters can be a serious bit!$*

I do not know if you have got a answer on this yet but here is the guide I followed.

Also here is a you tube video. (I used the screw driver method when I did my lifters.)

Also, here is a thread I started and asked some questions about doing this. Hope it helps! GL

I looked at the video, Ill try it if i have to.. Well i used a stethoscope and the noise is loudest at the valve cover and faint every where else below it... Except for the transmission, I placed the needle to the transmission and heard the knocking just not as loud, And out of curiosity, i placed the needle to the shifter, and heard the knocking faintly.

A : Check Timing
B : It's likely lifter tick if the engine is running smoothly
C : Add some lucas to your oil and see if the ticking goes away
D : Have you recently done a T-Belt change? I know that, sometimes, after a T belt change if you didn't replace the tensioner pulleys that they will rattle at a certain RPM range.

A. Ill check my timing but it doesnt explain why the knock is more evident warm.
B. Its a knock, unless its just that loud LOL
C. Ive added a quart a while ago. I think it helped a little but was in the motor only about 2 weeks.
D. Brings me back to A LOL
