Well i was driving down the freeway and i came to a stop and it shut off. I started it back up and i heard the worst sound in the world. The sound of a broke rod or bearing. So i drove the car for like 10 more minutes because there was no where to pull over. During this time the temperature stayed fine. When i shut the car off there was coolent coming out of the over flow tank WTF. So im all confused. I broke a rod and at the same time my head gastet went? That doesnt make sense. Too much back luck for me? Anyone got any idea what might of went wrong.

Wow, that's exactly what happened to my GSX. I was on the freeway, then suddenly i'm on 3 cyl with a rod knocking. By the time I shut the car off it was overheating like crazy with steam pouring everywhere. I never figured out what exactly happened... I assume I spun a rod bearing but I can't explain the overheating. Sorry I can't help. All I knew is it was gonna be expensive so I sold the car right after that. :|

Ha sold it? I dont plan on doing that. If anything i plan on getting a new crank and some rods. To bad you cant help me out. Its good knowing that im not the only that this has happened too

Julia's '92 did the exact same thing, turned out to be a balance shaft bearing. The symptoms were overheating, loss of oil pressure, and a very bad knocking/ticking sound.

With the balance shaft elim, I would think more towards a rod bearing. Not real sure why it was overheating, but as soon as we fixed the spun bearing thecar ran perfect. Best way to check for bearing failure would be to drain the oil and look for copper like metal in the drain pan.

Ya im gonna be needing ###### a new crank and some rods. But ill get back in an hour or so.Thanks

Well i got the pan off and rod 1 was missing half the bearing which was cut up in junks in the oil pan. There is light scoring on the crank. Could i get away with just throwing a new bearing in? I really dont ahve the time to pull the motor.

First of all, stop bumping your freaking thread all over the place unless you want a mod to close it.

The fact that you spun the bearing leads the fact that at some point the bearing was starved of oil, either through loss of oil pressure, stuck oil squirters, excessive revs or low oil levels. The crank will need to come out if it's scored. Slapping a new bearing on it would be a temporary fix that would lead you to having to pull it apart again in a short period of time.

If we knew why you overheated, we would have already said so. The head will need to be pulled to check for warpage and at that time, you can figure out if the head gasket let go. It would be a good idea to to also check for a stuck thermostat, failed waterpump etc.

Ha well i tried to just throw a bearing in there and it was good for about 2 miles :(. Anyone got a 6 bolt block?
