I don't want to seem like a broken record, but, my wife drove my car yesterday and said everything was fine that she even checked the oil and it was fine. When I left for dialysis this morning and drove about ten miles I started to hear this knocking noise coming from it so considering I was in the middle of nowhere I drove not more than ten miles and checked the oil at the gas station and it was low and by this time it was knocking. Put more oil in it and it is still knocking. It is only knocking when I get up to about 50mph, so my first guess is that I have a rod knocking. So my question is, do I have a rod knocking and how hard is it going to be to change it . Thanks for any help

If it's a rod it should sound like a loud lifter tick. Go on YouTube and look up spun rod Dsm. You would have to take out the entire engine to get that fixed. Another way to diagnose is to take out the oil pan and see if u can move the rods. The bad one should make a noise while your moving it . Yup you should tag this as helpful :p.

its tough to diagnose sounds without actually hearing them in person. But if it is a rod knock you'll have to pull the motor to replace it. and at that point i'd suggest changing out all of them while you have it apart... to me theres no point in not doing it because if you're getting up there in miles then theres always the chance that another one will get messed up...

Thanks it looks like I will be without my car for a little while. Should I just replace with a new motor or a rebuild and if I rebuild it what are the better rods and should I do anything else while doing that. Thanks

you have to see if the crank is good, i just spun a rod and i am currently looking for a crank. just find out whats wrong first for sure. I suggest buying from maperformance since they have some of the best prices on engine parts. or you can go on the forums here and try to find an engine thats already put together.

you can start off with these.. good for the price..
