ive ran into my 1st major problem with my car. i always knew it wasnt gonna be perfect forever  i wanna know if any of you guys ever had these problems. i know more or less what needs to be done but im always open for other suggestions. :thumb:

im having a spark miss and crazy sputtering anywhere above 4k RPM. ive replaced my plugs twice and gapped them correctly. i used NGK BPR6ES and BPR7ES with the same results. i also switched from my stock plug wires to magnecores. I HAVE NO IDEA WHATS GOING ON!

i also have what im guessing is some major blowby! lets hope not
my dipstick pops out whenever i go into heavy boost, its the factory one and i havent replaced it yet. my pcv is unvented and i have a breather on the left side of the VC. imma replace the dipstick and vent the pcv and see if it continues.

also have some oil in the VC/spark well. i already replaced all the seals on it including the half moon and the 4 tube seals. it was fine till just yesterday i checked and there was oil again :hmm: not sure if its because of my dipstick popping out or because my oil cap. imma try everything i can and see if i can find a solution.

the coils on the 1g cars are very good and reliable but when they start to go out they can do some weird stuff. The oil down inside you VC galley is most likely from a leaking oil cap (i bought one from slowboy and it fits super tight). Also, like mentioned above it is definetly a good idea to check your timing and maybe just do a belt swap if it hasnt already been done. The dipstick popping out is most likely a case of Blowby but just put a little crimp in your tube to prevent from blowing out and causing a fire. Probably gonna be doing a winter time rebuild before too long though.

One other thing, i dont think it is a very good idea to vent your PCV due to it needing vacuum to operate correctly. Also, if you hook your crankcase breather back up (left fitting on valve cover) to your turbo snorkel tube it will help release some of the pressures in the engine and maybe help prevent the dipstick from popping out.

good luck

Have you checked the gap on your plugs? If you arent getting good combustion and you no you have a bad spark, check your plugs.

I would put 6's in your car (if those are the stock plugs? I cannot remember at the moment, considering i have not seen my car in months ### im overseas), just use the stock spark plug, dont go colder, you dont need them.

If your ignition is breaking up it could simply be the plugs going bad, so get new plugs and gap them. Sometimes the gap will increase over time, i saw this happen to me. So pull em and gap to .028

If problem still exists, check your wires, possibly one going bad.

Also make sure you have the correct firing order for your wires, i mixed 1 of mine up and it ran terrible because of it.

Going to chime in here,

The sputtering effect is still going on even after we switched to the BPR7ES's? When we put mine in to test them out, your problem completely went away. Try gapping them at exactly .28 like I told ya, and see if that cure's the problem.

What I'm more concerned about more then anything is the dipstick popping out, which indicates that there is quite a bit of blow-by going on. What I'm hoping is that it's just a matter of the rubber seals on the dipstick going bad. The dipstick does slide in and out pretty easy.

Monday we'll head out to Mitsubishi and get you a new Oil Cap and Dipstick.

Also make sure you have the correct firing order for your wires, i mixed 1 of mine up and it ran terrible because of it.
Yeah, this isn't the issue LOL. The car would be running horrible if this was the case LOL. His issue only happens when under-load/boost at WOT and will have ignition break up at upwards of 4.5k RPM.

You can even gap them at .025 and it wont hurt anything!
I have mine set at .020, just to be able to run 35psi on stock ignition.

the plugs are brand spanking new and are gapped to .30 ill gap them to .28 and see what happens. i wont be able to test if the spark problem went away cause now when i go WOT ill spill oil all over the place and even onto the underside of my hood. i need to address all these "blow by" issues 1st.

i havent even looked for my idle surge problem but im sure its gonna be some work

NEW: i just regaped the plugs to .28 i noticed the motor turned on and idled better but the spark still broke up at high rpm. the idle surge is a TINY bit better but still there and annoying.

i did a hard pull and this time my dipstick didnt pop out but i did have oil all over the exhaust manifold by the 2 middle ports of the head.

im doing a compression test this week. screw it

just solved my spark issue last night. unplugged my battery, cleaned all my wires and gapped my plugs to about .26 and that seems to have done the trick.

as far as the oil problem is concerned, i figured out exactly where its coming from. its the bottom middle screw of the VC. it wont tighten AT ALL and oil squirts all over the place from there. gotta rethread it :|

ive replaced all my VC seals and tube seals and just now replaced my oil cap as well but im still getting a tiny TINY bit of oil in the spark well. its a hell of alot less then before but i dont know if its cause the little squirting screw or not :hmm:

imma just go ahead and rethread it and check all the others out and see what happens... WISH ME LUCK!! :thumb:
