Feeding 14b from OFH, how much pressure to drop?

Hello,

i have a OFH feedline and a 1.5mm restrictor on order for my 14b so that i could start abusing it!

I know too much oil pressure is bad for 14b's, so my question is.. is the restrictor going to be enough to drop the pressure or should i also port the housing?

My concern is not to drop the pressure too much!

Thank you

Honestly, i haven't measured. Does it vary from car to car?

Is it better if i get the gauge working and then go from there? Or is there a better way to measure it?

Does a restrictor usually provide a significant enough drop?

Sorry about so many questions.. just trying to figure it all out without having to break anything.

Thank you

Yeah, it will vary depending on alot of things, including the weight of the oil. If you know your actual oil pressure, and what the turbo "wants", then you'll have the information you need to figure out how much of a restriction you need. If you don't know the pressure you're working with, then it's just a guessing game.

The factory gauge sucks. Pick up a good aftermarket gauge.

Not trying to jack the thread but, if my oil pressure is at about 95psi and WOT and my new turbo doesn't like to have over 65ish. What size of a restrictor should I be looking for?

Fair enough.. that sounds like a good idea!

A couple more questions if you don't mind 99gst_racer,

How can i determine what the turbo wants?

And when i get a gauge, is there a better spot to tap it in for this or pretty much anywhere on the housing?

There's a few threads around here that list what certain CHRA's like for oil pressure. I'm sure you'll find them with ease if you search. I can't remember the details off the top of my head.

I'd tap it at the filter housing where the factory sending unit goes.

Thanks a lot for your help!! I will make you proud :thumb:
