ah its cool it doens't seem like anyone is going to make it to this meet anyway. I have some stuff to take care of with kamil at the time anyway and its raining so I don't think that in and out is going to happen.

Well, me and 3 other friends made it out to GoKartRacer (at the correct time this time). One person from the site (not even a registered member) showed up. He said he saw a silver GST pass by but didn't stop in.

Oh well, it was fun. We did the Monza track Grand Prix - 10 min practice then a 5 min qualifying session and a 15 min race. I finished in second place overall and second quickest lap time - 29.82 (my friend Steve beat me by a 1/2 second). I think I like the Yokohama track a little better. It seems faster. And there were too many people on the track this time around.... it was tough to get through the traffic. Eleven cars on the track is tough.

Well, hopefully next time we'll have some members show up.

it seems to me like the bay area DSM meets always crash and burn :thumbdown :barf: I'm waiting for the next drive, hopefully I'll be a step up from the current ride by then. If not I'll represent DSMs at the bimmer meets.. which always happen to be huge

Yeah, for some reason, DSMers don't seem to be all that into gatherings. Yet, you look at other enthusiast groups like the WRX, the Bimmer, LT1's and other car owner groups who are passionate about their cars and they don't seem to have any trouble setting up a meet. I don't know what it is. Maybe it's due to the fact that not many DSMers around here have their cars done up - so they don't feel like going out to see a bunch of stock DSMs... or maybe everyones' DSM isn't running just yet like mine. I don't know. It does sort of suck though. You go to a BMW meet and see a ton of bad ass cars and wonder "why can't we get cars like this to show up for DSM meets?".

I don't know guys. Hopefully this summer the turnout will be better for the track days and drives we'll be setting up. Hopefully we have some DSMers around here who like to really drive their cars hard. If not, we'll invite some other car enthusiast groups to take up the slack. I have three close friends who will be out there this year at every track event that we plan - one has a yellow Z06, another a purple 94 Vette, and the third has a purple/grey 93 Z28 (or his Laguna Seca blue M3). They've beginning to think I'm full of shit when I tell them that we'll have more than 3 DSMers (other than myself) show up this time. Which sucks because I really want them to see that there are fast DSMs around here...

I got 165K miles on my stock tranny, and she still shifts perfectly, except for some grinding when shes cold.

Anyway, I think we need to motiviate the Bay Area DSMers to come to the meets, i was thinking something along the lines of some hot women.

Hehe open to suggestions.

I showed up I was there from 240 to about 310ish when I didn't see a single sole show up I decided to leave. I did however meet one guy he had a stock red 90-91 awd but I couldn't here him to well when we were talking from car to car but oh well, I was dissapointed to say the least and my gf wasn't to happy that I gave her the stomach flu and then had to leave to go have fun that she was going to partake in if she wasn't throwing up all over the place. Hell we'll see if I even try and make it out to meets anymore it just seems like to much hassle anymore. Luda just like you said all my friends have ls1's and I go to their meets there is like 20 some odd cars, vipers, vettes they go on cruises why we can't do the same who knows. See y'all next time.

We should get a small South Bay meet during the week, since it looks like the majority of us live down there anyway. I'm new to the area so I'm generally not doing too much after work.

EXACTLY.. and it's not even all bmws. It's all kinds of cars because people know that the bmw meets are huge. We need to do that guys, we need to get to the point where people say hey there's a DSM meet, other people say sweet I'm there. How to get people to show up? I really don't know, other car groups can do it no sweat. Mayb prizes to people who show up? Every 5 or 10 people? :p :thumb:

We should start posting our meet's up on other forums and making them open to all cars. Mayb that's a start to getting a bigger turnout. We'll see what summer brings...

That's the guy who was there - the one with the red 90. He said he saw a silver GST outside, so that must have been you. You should have went inside - then we would have had a whole 3 DSMers hanging out at this meet...

Seriously Zach, I'll let you know when we set up the track days. At least then you and I (and whoever else is passionate about their cars) can show up. I doubt there will be too many DSMers, but at least we'll see some other cool cars. I know my car is gonna be fun as hell this summer. Hopefully I won't be the only DSMer in the Bay Area that will be going to track days and driving the hell out of my car.

Calling all passionate Bay Area DSMers... where are you???? (echo, echo, echo) maybe when the rain lets up we'll get some more interest. The funny thing is, I stopped by a meet at a shop in Union City on my way to the karting place. It was full of modified WRXs and EVOs... Bad weather didn't seem to stop those car enthusiasts from gathering.

bad weather didn't kill the mt. hamilton drive eigher ;P. I don't know what's up with the DSM community. :( Maybe us few DSM guys that are willing to come out should just start going to other car meets to try and represent the DSM scene, maybe that will bring out a few DSMers little by little. I posted the huge bimmer meet here in these forums and I was still the only DSM out there out of 100+ cars

more DSMs show up at "non-DSM" meets then official DSM meets.. from my experience.. i find myself going to "non-DSM" meets knowing that fact that more show up there then actual ones.. and just unfortunate occurences where DSM meets land on bad days.. (cant make it or time where car is being down) .. and most of the time the DSM owners i meet over at those non DSM meets are not even on this site or care for it.. seems to me just the case of not being informed , misscommunication, bad timing, and just plain ol lack of interest.. maybe lack of hype..

last official "DSM Meet" i went to was the one where we first met up at Great Mall.. then to Logitech in 510 to meet up for that big (very successful) meet.. then after that cruised to PSI for just an official DSM MEet.. fun times.. i still had my "Red Turbo Eclipse" .. rolled wtih Toshi, gotEclipsed when he still had his GS-T.. we rolled in like 10-15 cars deep all at once.. on top of the many others that were already there and came later..

perhaps starting with something simple just like samll nightly meet ups and hopefully fromt hat get the word out to other DSM owners.. where the only thing a person has to worry about is paying for gas.. and not paying for other more expensive things not everybody maybe able toa fford.. such as karting..

just my observation and 2cents.. my car is practically done so its just a matter of attending one.. maybe teh next one

honestly i think when infeneon opens up on march 3 we should start meeting at the track... maybe more people will come out if there is actually something to do..... id like some legal racing... its always fun... and maybe we can give away prizes like a dsmtuners shirt to the quickest et or something... just a thought but i know imma be at the track a lot once it opens up...

my excuse for not going.... none of my friends wanted to go, im broke and didnt have money to kart or eat at in n out... and the rain kinda sucked too...

Yeah the small meet-ups would be good to establish some kind of "regulars" system and once that group gets to around 10, word of mouth will do the rest, then the group will expand then we'll be able to have bigger meets. Maybe we should start with a weekly thing for the southbay just like the sac-dsm guys.

Where do you find info on the meets that you go to that have more DSMs?

Well, I guess there will always be two types of DSMers - the ones who are passionate about talking DSMs, and the ones who are passionate about driving DSMs. We already do plenty of talking about DSMs here on the site. Meets should be mostly about driving the cars (in my opinion).

I can understand being on a budget to an extent, as we all can't just dump money into our cars like crazy. But at what point does standing around and talking about the cars get a little boring? I for one will probably only attend a couple meets this year that don't involve driving my car. Personally, I'm not into standing around the whole time and chit chatting. Most of the time, people just stand around and talk to the people they know anyway. That can be done before and after a drive or at any track day. I love meeting people from the site, but I've done the whole carshow scene and hanging out at In n' Out Burger... basing a whole meet around a non-driving event isn't as interesting as it used to be for me. I prefer driving up Skyline, Mt. Hamilton, going to Buttonwillow, Thunderhill, etc and BS-ing with the people who show up and are passionate about driving their car, not just talking about it.

As I said before, I'll post info on track days and drives that me and some friends will be putting together throughout the year. Any passionate DSMers interested in attending will be more than welcome. In fact, I'd love to be able to prove to my friends that fast DSMs in Northern Cali are not just a myth. Hopefully we can get a few others out at a track day or drive.

The majority of the meets have been way out of the way for me. I already get bad gas mileage as it is. This is why I don't say I'm going.

This is why we need a meet in the South Bay :p
