Fans on with ignition, possible with DSMLink?

Since my FMIC was installed I've had heating issues. I plan on creating some ducting to draw air to the radiator. There is only about an inch between the FMIC and radiator.

Is it possible to use DSMLink to have the fans come on with the ignition. How do the fans work? I've never paid much attention to them. Do they come on at a certain temp and continue to stay on? or just when it is idleling?

I believe that for 2G's, the fan comes on low at 210. You can make it come on sooner by changing the coolant offset. If you decide to turn them on all the time then all you have to do is go to miscellaneous then click on fans then click done.

any of you guys running aftermarket fans? how do you have them wired up? pics would be great. im not an electrical guy and i cant get my fans to come on but i probablly have them wired wrong. i do have dsmlink thats why im asking i want to turn them on all the time cause i too have a sbr bigass intercooler :)

You can't turn them on all the time on a 1g like you can with a 2g.

I'm running two 12" slimlines. I cutoff the plug and play harnesses from my stock fan's, got the wiring together, and soldered my connections. A little heatshrink and wire loom makes it look good.

DSMLink is pretty much amazing. :rocks:

... is what you should have wrote :D

For a 1G or any other car for that matter, just wire a relay like this:

85 12v+ Ignition input (tap any wire that shows 12v+ ONLY when the ignition is on)
86 Chassis ground
87 14awg (minimum!) wire to battery with 20 amp Fuse
87a No connection
30 fan 12v+ input

Ground the fan's ground wire to chassis.

Repeat for each fan used.

Enjoy!

NOTE: Be sure to check aftermarket fan polarity! -Some fans can be wired as "push" or "pull" fans.

That's the ticket!!! He beat me to it, but i was about to post the same thing.

On my 92 TSI, I have removed air cond condensor and pump. Just push in air conditioner button on dash, fans come on. If yu still have air cond system, just unplug Compressor pump, and push button. I installed new Radiator, and put in sheet metal around FMIC to seal sides and bottom of radiator to force air through radiator. No over heating issues.

thanx for all you help guys. i actually ran a new relay just the way you told me but i forgot to use a 30a fuse to battery and i thought my wire was 14g turns out it was only like 18g. needless to say when i hooked it up the wire started melting and smoking:( one question thogh doesnt the stock plug harness run into the thermo sensor at the bottom of the rad?

You people spending all this time wiring up a relay on your 1g's. There is a coolant temp sensor at the bottom corner of the radiator all you have to do is unplug it, connect the 2 wires together and the fans will run whenever the ignition is on. ROFL
