So I did try searching for a similar problem but still not quite sure what to make of it. Anywho, i'm basically stock except a 3" turbo back and Dejon intake, running stock everything else. here is the issue... just recently when i get up to say above 5500 rpm, it feels like i hit a fuel cut or possible ignition misfire. Car jerks and bucks, and i hear a pop like a flame shot out my exhaust and see a bit of black smoke behind me. I do try to take it fairly easy on her... Am i headed in the right direction with the possible ignition miss? Boost gauge shows no sign of any boost/vacuum leaks...

Just because you don't notice any difference in the boost guage doesn't mean that you don't have a boost leak. I would do a boost leak test just to be safe. It also might be a good idea to replace the plugs and wires if it's been a while, or if you don't know the last time they were replaced. Good luck:thumb:

Yeah that is very true... I know the plugs and wires were replaced not too long before i bought the car, but im going to pull them and inspect them anyways. maybe if i get some free time at work i can do the boost leak test.

Thanks for the tip man:thumb: My roommate and I were just talkin about that too! Whwn I finally get a chance to leak test and inspect I let ya know what i find.

It probably is somethin pretty simple. I think I know what the deal is and i havent even got a chance to look her over... upper intercooler pipe or the vacuum line going to the recirc valve.

Being that your profile says you're mostly stock are you sure it isn't fuel cut? Also, if it's still doing it with new gapped plugs, take the gap down to about .024 and see if it clears up. Also, not sure if you have a wideband, but running too rich is the cause of me getting ignition breakup about 95% of the time i deal with it.
jUst tossing that out there

Well I kinda thought fuel cut at first but not too likely on stock boost levels. I can hopefully find time to pull the car intp the shop today at work and take a look at the plugs. And thanks for the little tip with plug gapping, both you and gravedigger. Not sure if im running rich, i lack a wide band.

IF you're running stock and stock boost you're running rich, that was one of the many ways mitsubishi helped insure low warranty claims, run the cars rich with an over sensitive knock sensor so a monkey running it on kerosene WOT and no wastegate connected could make it 100k miles on the OEM engine LOL

Ha aint that the truth!!! Looks like tuesday will have to be the day to diag the Talon... Can't get a break at work, damn!

Well yesterday i got the chance to look over the Talon. All spark plugs were gapped to about .027" except for the #4 plug which was at .034". Reagapped them all to .028". Checked over the wires and my vacuum lines too to make sure all was well. Then i noticed part of my upper intercooler piping was not flush in the coupler. Corrected that and now she seems to run like a champ. I dont get any ignition break up or jerking all the way to red line. Thanks for the good words!

Ya me too! Well I guess until next puzzling issue hahaha....
