Hey guys, i recently took my eclipse to a shop so they can install a radiator fan for me.

Turned out they wired both fans together so they turn on together instead of me pressing the ac.

Cool right, well i was driving for about 36min then it started overheating i pulled over, popped my hood, and the fans aren’t on anymore!!

Today is a Sunday so there not open what can i do?

I don't know why they hooked both fans together, that's a lot of current needed and I'd start by checking relays and fuses as they probably popped

Another fan is for engine cooling and another one is just for ac, there's no need for another fan to blow unless it's hot summer day and you have your AC on

If fuses and relays are good, check connector so it's not melted as there might be too much resistance, third option is your ECT sensor

If all those are okay, id try feed 12V for the fan harness to see if they both rotate on low and high speed, if not, they most likely hooked something wrong

Yes i agree. It is alot of current, my first thought was the fuse blew. But if i replace the fuse wouldn’t it blow again?

And i did get a check engine light for the ECT it says (ECT sensor low)

Both fans do turn on on, both low and high

Start by replacing ECT, if fuse was blown it's because that fuse is not designed for that much of a current flow and resistance so it will increase amperage over what fuse can handle, and I would not put bigger fuse in it as that might cause harness problems

The thing is, i replaced the ECT already a couple months ago
You can try if it works with multi meter it's 5V sensor so it varies 0-5V depending on coolant temperature, this is pretty typical part to fail, though couple months sounds too soon but if you do get code for it, it might be bad

saw it on there website. Going to go buy one 👍🏼
So first measure that you'll get ~5V DC to the connector which plugs in to the ECT sensor if yes it's most likely bad sensor but if you wanna check if sensor is bad, you can either back probe terminals when car is running and everything hooked up, in Ambient temperature it should read approximately 2.5V, when hot it should go close to 0 and other way around when cool, you can also take the sensor off (make sure engine is cool) and measure resistance in a ice bucket and pot of hot water, and see if it match the specs, I'll send you the scale from my computer

Also, you can plug up where sensor was with another sensor and put the plugged in sensor in almost boiling water and see if fans kick in

Here's 420a ECT values
