So as the title says, I think 5th gear may be at the end of its life. The past few weeks the tranny would get "stuck" as I pulled it out of 5th and I would have to wiggle the gear shifter around a little bit to get it into neutral.

A few days ago when I was driving up my hill to get to my house I let of the gas to decelerate while still in gear (3rd I believe) and I was greeted with a pretty loud whining noise...only on deceleration. I drove it back around the block to inspect and it was in all gears only on decel. By the time I got back to my house it had stopped.

Today, on the freeway in 5th at about 1/4 throttle, there was a pretty loud whining noise. Only at partial throttle. Under vacuum and full throttle it was fine. I have a video of the latest incident to show you guys what i mean.

Think the tranny is hanging by a thread? Or would this be a differential problem?

Car is pretty much stock with a few bolt ons (intake, 1g BOV, free DIY mods, etc...)

P.S. You can see how much throttle I'm using on the boost gauge.

if your trans bolts are loose your going to have lots of problems. if thats the case bot it back up and see if thats the problem, as i recal when i dropped my trans it was hard to shift and it was making some sounds.

throw out bearing is toast i would assume.

bolt that bich back up and see what happens.

We've narrowed it down to a bearing. Going to put it on the lift at lunch and run it through the gears to try and pinpoint it. I'll post what we find.

Try to pull the end case off the trans. Thats where your 5th/reverse gear is. Check the gold gear for wear and the other gears. If the snap ring is broke it could be bad! its a place to check anyway :p good luck!
