Factory fogs on a non-fog

Just bought some factory fog lights for my 96 Talon. The problems is that the car was not originally equipted with them. So I'm not sure what all needs to be done to get the Fog lights working.

I read somewhere that all non-fog vehicles were "wired" from the factory and all that was need was the OEM switch, OEM relay, and fuse. But I looked around under/behind the front end and found NO wiring provisions from the headlight wire harness (i.e. no wire leads or connectors for fog lights). And I'm not sure there are even any "fog light" wires present at the under-hood fuse block or behind the switch cover plate.

Has anyone made this swap before? What are the parts and steps I need to take in order to make the fogs work? (non-stock switch and wiring would be ok)

You'll also need the dash switch and a relay. The switches show up on eBay for ten bucks, the relay is a standard item. I can't speak to the wiring question, I'd have expected the wires to be there. Keep looking, the connector should be taped to the harness near the foglight locations.

Looks like I may be SOL  I looked the car over for about an hour or so last night and could find no fog light wires/harness anywhere on the main electrical harness. On top of that, I examined the underhood fuse box and found that there are absolutely no wires/end-connectors attached to the fog light switch relay port. And only a single end-connector present in the inboard side of the fog light fuse port. So it appears my car was NOT wired for fog lights from the factory! :( :(

So what do I do? Any ideas on how to connect the factory fog lights up without the factory wiring? I'm not very good with electrical stuff and could use some help understanding how to hook these things up. Thanks.

i went through the same thing, my car came stock no lights, no wiring nothing. i did originaly install fogs myself and just tapped the marker light wire, grounded it, it worked fine didnt burn any wires didnt blow a fuse nothing. But after awhile i just went to my local import shop and had them do a custom install, where they took the plastic pieces that are on the 97-99 eclipses that look like the fog lights but have no lights, they cut the center out and placed in the fogs so it looked stock. and installed a switch and did all the wiring for me. If you dont have any experience doing electrical work id say to be safe just save some money up and have them installed for you, that way you get a professional job and peace of mind. Good luck

I agree completely, it's not even that it is hard, it's just a pita, and when it doesn't work properly right away you'll get frustrated with it...so just take it to any decent shop (or find the neighbor who knows electrical, buy him a few beers and invite him over for a bbq and a little help on the fogs). :thumb:

:thumb: Well, it's done!

I decided to give it a try myself and the fog are now working. After a quick trip to the local auto parts store and printing out some reference material from this site, I started the wiring process. I based it on a thread from this site that explained how to power the fogs from the tail-lamp relay. So I ran the power wire from the #4 port of the rear-lamp relay to the toggle switch. Then I routed power from the switch ("accessory" terminal) down to the front fascia area where it then split to the two fogs. I then ran a ground from the switch to the body. And another ground was run from the two fogs to the body. After everything was connected, I hooked the battery back up and turned on the running lights. Then holding my breath I flipped the toggle switch. YES!!! The fog's lit up with no sparks flying or fuses popping.

BTW, it was a PITA and took me almost 3 1/2 hours to complete!
