do i need the factory amp to power the factory headunit?

damn i have probblems then, ive checked all of the fuses and wires and no power to the head. got any ideas

hummmm. yeah you do have a problem. maybe pull the head unit out and check the wires leading into the back of it.

You didn't disconnect your battery did you because you have to put the security code in to get it back working. I think that that is all on the premium sound systems.

no its a lot more complicated than that, i have no power at all to the radio and i just realized the cig light also... its got me stumpped

Some models of the factory head unit won't put out sound without the factory amp. So, the definitive answer is "Maybe".
Any modern radio with have about triple the power of the factory Infinity setup, and with a harness adapter, will plug straight into the car.
