Hello everyone. I'm new. And I couldn't find any answers for what I was looking for.

I have a galant with an automatic speed transmission (f4a22). I would like to know if the TPS has anything to do with that transmission in any way, and if I can replace it with any TPS I want. I recently bought a new throttle body that comes with a generic TPS.. I didn't try driving the car yet because didn't have time to replace everything...
 
The factory TCU uses the TPS signal, I had to go look at a TCU pinout to make sure. You can see the pinout of a 1g TCU in this thread.......... 1G TCU Guide

Thanks for the quick response.

Yes, i get that the TCU uses the TPS signal, but is there any difference if I use a generic TPS? I mean, how does the TCU know when the throttle is fully open for example for the kickdown...
 
Your factory TPS ranges from .62 volts at idle to 5 volts at wide open throttle. The other TPS would need to see that range also for the factory TCU to operate correctly.
 
Thanks! I should check the voltage then. in case it doesnt have the same voltage the only solution is to buy one that does?
 
Check your voltages first and if they are off a little, it may work fine. If it is off A LOT it may shift quirky.
 
The output voltage are more effected by the voltage the ECU provides and the impedance of both the ECU and TCU TPS input circuits. The TPS is just a voltage divider, one side gets sensor voltage (+5v) and the other side is connected to ground. The output voltage ranges from one extreme to the other based on the resistance of the TPS and the position of the wiper. This assumes that neither of the computers measuring the voltage load it down.

What throttle body did you get? Is it a direct replacement?g
My car had a carburetor (with TPS). I replaced everything and used a Mitsubishi intake from a 4g6x, but the TPS I had was broken (the one that came with the intake) and it was cheaper to buy a new TPS and throttle body than only the Mitsubishi TPS. Plus I didn't have the connectors...

This is the one I bought, it fits perfect. sorry if my English is not that good, I'm from Argentina

@steve , could the OP power the TPS with 5 volts and a ground and then measure the output voltage or is he still dependent on the ECU/TCU for the proper output? Can we at least get him into a ballpark of if his is close to what our cars came with doing anything like that? I trust your reply. Thank you!
 
I would expect so. I don't see any way to adjust that TPS on that TB or a Idle Position Switch and now I have more questions than just TPS voltage to make things work. Like how are you going to drive the Idle Speed Control Stepper. What ECU are you going to use and which TCU?

Im using a VW GOLF iac, is that what you mean? all controled by the ecu i bought (racetec.com.ar)

That throttle body uses a DSM ISC on the bottom of it unless you block it off where the two castings join.

You made me laugh! I know, i installed a chevrolet corsa manual IAC (photo attached) and the VW electric IAC. the problem was that the ecu does not support other IAC´s.
