I have a 97 gs 5 spd. I just replaced spark plug wires yesterday, and last night all of the sudden my check engine light came on and the engine started idling at 4k rpm. While driving, it pulls on its own a little bit. I checked the TPS, not that. Im thinking it's the IAC, but I thought it would idle low instead of high if that was the case. I did the ignition check engine light procedure, it reads an IAC motor circuit problem (code 25) and also a misfire on one or more cylinders is detected (code 43). I didnt know if maybe someone else has had the same problem before and could give me some advice.

When you install the new plug wires into the coil pack, somtimes you have to bend the ends out a little to get a contact inside the coil pack, also make sure it's clean inside.

On the high idle, make sure your throttle cables are not bound up, a few months ago I had the high idle after doing some engine work and I had to readjust my cables to lower it.

boost leaks will obviously cause high idle as well .. check your intercooler piping and intercooler as well as other vacuum lines.

I had an eratic idle problem earlier in the week but it was caused by the throttle getting stuck in a bit. now its back and ready to go.

Luke  :dsm:

My car is non turbo, so its nothing with intercooler piping or turbo. The throttle and cruise control cables are the first things i checked, but if that was the case, the check engine light wouldnt come on and give me the codes it did. I am going to reset the computer and then clean the throttle body and IAC with carb cleaner to see if maybe the IAC got stuck open or something. If anybody else has any suggestion, that would help out a lot.

Well, i reset the computer, still error code for the IAC but no error for misfire. I sprayed throttle body cleaner into the throttle body while the engine ran, nothing changed. I removed the throttle body, removed the IAC and disassymbled and cleaned all the parts with carb cleaner. Installed and still, no difference. I still get the IAC circuit fault code, so is my IAC motor bad or is there something else thats wrong?

I dont know if this has anything to do with my problem, but i had my transmission replaced last week (bent fork). I didnt know if maybe there is something the shop could have messed up that is giving me this problem.

Well, i checked the idle air control motor and it is fine. While the engine was running i blocked the throttle body and the engine still ran, and that is when i heard a hiss. So im guessing that would be a vacuum leak, and it sounds like it is right above the transmission. If somebody could could give me some advice as to how to go about this, that would help a lot. Would an egr going bad cause this problem?

Would an intake manifold gasket or injector o-ring cause this much of a vacuum leak? Cause when the throttle body is blocked off completely, its still running about 3000-3500 rpm. So can either one cause a leak big enough for that?

i had the same problem on my eclipse check the egr pipe i looked and looked on my motor couldnt find the problem and one day i was rubbing along the pipe and found a hole in the pipe try that and see if it helps..........all_motor04

Today i checked my egr pipe and i found an enormous hole on the underside of the egr pipe. I plugged the hole just to see, and the engine idled right! Thanks for all your help. :thumb:
