Okay, before i get my 40 lashings for posting this in here instead of the Turbo forum, I can only post here.

Okay, on to the subject at hand. I would like to know what the differences is from mounting your external WG on your manifold, or on your o2 Housing? Are there differences in performance between the two? I guess i don't understand how the whole thing works. I'm looking into buying a DSM and fixing it up, learning things as i go.

Thanks, To whoever is willing.

Manifold mount is the best way to go, but it tends to be more expensive. If you have the external gate running off of the o2 housing, you are suject to some of the same restrictions as the internal gate. You will still have to port out the area leading up to the wastegate hole, as well as porting out the wastegate hole itself. It will also require removal of the stock wastegate flapper (if applicable)

External gate on the manifold either requires a new manifold, or a professionally welded flange on your current manifold.

Okay well how do both work? I meen, like i know how and what a wastegate does, but how does a o2 housing mounted wastegate work when it is mounted after the turbo? And how does the Manifold one work?

I was looking at Slowboyracing.com and they have nice manifolds that are made to work with a Tial WG. Was thinking that was the way to go but just wanted to know the differences.

that's one of my old posts on the subject-

For what it's worth, I'd say that in order of good/better/best I'd say:

#1 runner / o2 housing / manifold collector

Honestly, any of them will work well if used properly. If you don't open up the old wastegate hole on a mitsu housing before running a gate on the o2 you are just being ridiculous. The opening in my 14b's 6cm^2 housing is actually larger than the opening for either a tial 38mm (the hole on the sbr manifold) or the opening on the HKS 40mm I run. Once you do it right, there is no problem- done wrong, blackgsx2g is correct- creep will still happen.

DSMBen: your o2 housing mounted wastegate on a mitsubishi style turbine housing is actually before the turbine wheel, otherwise it wouldn't work (your internal wouldn't either). Obviously with a T4 style turbo that doesn't have that option, running off the manifold (especially the collector) is mandatory, as you wouldn't be able to relieve the gases otherwise. If that makes sense.

When you order a turbo, it generally has an option of wastegate being mounted on the exhaust manifold or onto the o2 housing. On an internally gated turbo, there is a flapper which is actuated by the wastegate actuator. If you select the external wastegate being mounted on the o2 housing, the flapper is removed, but the hole is still there. Thus, exhaust pressure is built up between the exhaust housing and the external wastegate via the hole without the flapper. However, if you select the option of mounting it on the manifold, generally turbo manufacturers professionally seal off that hole so no turbulence or exhaust build-up is created with a hole that goes no where.

Okay well the car I'm looking into getting is nice, but could use some upgrading. New turbo, new fmic possibly, headers and such.

I will probably be going with a SBR 57 or 60 Trim G series turbo, so i should External gate it on the Manifold? So get a manifold like:
