I have 98 eclipse gs and when its running (just idling) it spits oil. Or what i think is oil. Its an automatic if this means anything. Its like a light/dark brown liqiud that shows up on my hand when i put my hand infront of the exhaust. I get like 5-7 miles to the gallon too.:notgood: Ive spent $90 in gas when i only put 100-150 miles on my car. Its getting fixed as i type this but i just want an idea of what ill be paying and what the problem is. All feedback is apprecatied. Thanks a billion.

Sounds like you're running ridiculously rich. Does it smell like fuel when you stand behind your car? Does it struggle for power or seem like it's underpowered?

What condition is the motor in? Has it been rebuilt or never been opened up?? You could have a very tired, old motor. As for the wetness in the exhaust that could be just condensation from a warm exhaust mixing with the carbon build-up on your tailpipe. My GST does this in this PA weather. If the liquid smells like gas then you are running way too rich. If it "feels" slippery between your fingers then its oil. Does it smoke at all when you drive? Black smoke is running rich and grey smoke is oil burning.

No, there is a faint smell of burnt oil around the rear off the car when i turn off my car and walk around it. It doesnt struggle for power either. There is no smoke. Just the regular smoke that would come from a regular vehicle.

Ok so the is no smoke. But you never answered my original question. What condition is the motor in? For the gas mileage issue try a simple tune-up (if you haven't done one recently). Plugs, wires, fuel filter and maybe check your front o2 sensor. Sometimes a dying o2 sensor doesn't trip the CEL.

With your fuel mileage down the way it is, I would check the FPR and see if the diaphram has ruptured and is sucking raw gas into the intake.

Pull the vac hose from the FPR to intake off, if wet or smell like gas, its bad.

I apologize, the engine is in good condition. Replaced head, new plugs and wires, check engine light is on. My mechanic said cel is on due to bad o2 sensor OR exhaust leak. Im sorry for the leaving out that info.

You should really replace that o2 sensor ASAP. If there is an exhaust leak and its pre sensor it will affect your air fuel mix and you would still have fuel trim problems even with a new o2 sensor. Without that sensor cycling the ECU is straight dumping fuel at all times. It would be worth getting a new one as gas prices are getting ridiculous already.(I have to get 93octane which is $4+ already:coy:)
