So sometimes for fun me an my friends punch it in 1st or 2nd up to past 5.5k and what you do is you keep the pedal at WOT and it might sound weird but you actually turn the key off and then quickly turn it back on while holding the gas all the way down and what happens is once you turn it off there is no more spark obviously so you get some unburned gas still in your system and when you quickly turn the key back on it ignites the gas and BOOM!! a huge explosion and flame out of your tailpipe. We do it just for fun or to mess with some people. I was wondering if anyone was aware of this or actually already did it. The main thing i'm wondering about is what exactly can it do to harm your engine? If someone knows please tell me otherwise im going to be too tempted to keep popping it all the time. :p

that does not sound good at all for anything =/

i know it doesnt sound good for the engine it sounds amazing when your driving though LOL. i just am trying to figure out what it could do to the engine. someone said it could foul out the pistons eventually so idk.

Foul out the piston, maybe the plugs. Never herd that before. Or maybe thats what you meant..

You're essentially doing the same thing that AntiLag would do, only on a much larger scale and totally uncontrolled.

It's not good for the engine, and by loading the turbine housing with raw fuel then igniting it you're almost certainly going to ruin the turbo. Stop it.

your instigating mis-fire, you don't have a car listed but if it is turbo, your turbo is going to be toast in a month.

ya sorry i have to update that...i just got a 95 gsx with a 16g small turbo ported. well i guess i have to stop poppin it drivin down the street so i dont blow my turbo LOL thanks guys

If you want a loud pop and maybe some flames, Get a big exhuast do some tuning. My friend has an AE86 with the 20 valve motor, individual throttle bodies, all the goodies. It shoots 2 foot flames when he lets it deccelarate in gear.

dont wanna sound like a prude, but, you're doing this on city streets with other drivers around you? how bout the safety issues. take the jackass stuff off the road so your fun doesnt ruin someone elses day, or more importantly, their life.

well i do have alot of aftermarket goodies on the car. here is a link the original owner of the car made a website about the car and it has almost all the upgrades listed on there. it does have a different exhaust system than the one listed but is very similiar. http://schertz.name/eclipse/mods.html . and it is not really abusing the safety of others. it is just a loud noise for them. its no worse than driving by and blowing an air horn out of your car :p

I dont think any flames out of his exhuast will be igniting small children on fire. ROFL

Now speeding down residential street in excess of the speed limit is a different story. :nono:

Yes, but said loud pop could scare the living jesus out of someone, causing them to crash. Which in turn could be bad! OMG

If that gas is blowing up inside your exhaust housing, your probably getting mad boost spike as well which is no bueno

IDK about the boost spike because like i said the car turns off so no boost reading LOL. i will try to get a video up if i can showing how i do it and how it looks from behind.

Many people have suggested not to do this for risk of killing your turbo. But you want to anyways.. I don't understand. Enlighten me on the reason of doing so if you now obviously know it's no good for the car.

You are an idiot. Please sell your car to someone that will take better care of it.

You are putting other people on the road at a huge risk.

I don't think this type of talk is acceptable for the forums. If you don't have anything informative to say then maybe you should not post.

Back on topic though: Loud popping and flames from the exhuast is a natural occurance of high horsepower vehicles. We can debate all day whether or not this hurts the performance of the car (I think it's more important to worry about accelaration air maps rather deccelaration maps).

We should agree to disagree on the cool factor. Driving wreckless on public roads is a bad idea. The popping sound however shouldn't scare other drivers or pedestrians any more than a loud exhuast or vented blow-off valve. Some of you are just way too uptight about that.

In this case, he is instigating this situation by turning the car off (anti-lag). If the gas explodes in the header or exhaust housing of the turbo, the turbine will be subject to this force of explosion and create a boost spike as the turbine will spin because of that. The reason the spike happens is because he is starting the car with the pedal at WOT, anit-lag systems are to cure spool between shifts, you are letting off the gas between shifting, however he is not.

the car is off for about 2tenths of a second and starts right back up. now i obviously i know it is not good for my car and can really damage the turbo if it is done enough. i do it for fun that is all. not to put people in danger. just for my own enjoyment. every1 here has been a teen an knows how it is to have fun. sorry im not trying to create a whole debate here i just wanted to know what exactly it can do to the car and i have found out. and i do take VERY good care of the car. i am going to be upgrading the turbo and putting in a new tranny soon...i am still on the stock one at 116k miles OMG

yea dude...you gotta stop doing this. im 17 and dont do dumb stuff like this. just not good thing to do all around. but i have a feeling that nobody on this forum will tell you any different. whatever though. cant say that you werent warned.

Sounds like you an external o2 dump.:thumb:

Quit blowing up your turbo and just get an external o2 dump and it'll be equally if not more louder than what you're currently doing.
