I am running no cat, 3in all the way back. I get that damn ricer burn after a week and wipe it off. Every week it comes back nice and black above the muffler. Its to the point where I can scrub it off when I wash it. How can I take off the carbon build up on my rear bumper? and how do I keep it off? Thanks.

A good cleaning agent will remove the carbon build up, but as for keeping it off...... The exhaust gasses are coming out of the exhaust and hitting your bumper leaving behind the carbon, I would get a little bit of a longer exhaust hanger to lower the muffler away from the bumper

And I tried cleaning it with all kinds of cleaning agents and none seem to work. I was wondering if theres a wax or something to just block the carbon build up from sticking to the bumper. I remember seeing a tech article on it, "how to remove ricer burns and keep it off" but can't seem to find it.

If you don't want to move it, fix all boost leaks, they tend to make you run excessively rich under boost; leaving more carbon deposits.

Pre o2 sensor exhaust leaks will do the same thing during closed loop.

Don't touch it with regular sandpaper! Wet sand -if anything. I would first try to some polishing compound though. Kind of like rubbing compound where it takes off some clear coat but not as aggressive. I'm thinking it may be embedded/burned into the clear coat.

I don't know how to stop if from sticking other than stopping the cause of it in the first place.

EDIT: If you were venting your BOV it would run richer than if recirculating(on the stock draw through setup).

What color is your vehicle? If you sand it, you run the risk of cutting through the clear coat and leaving permanent scuff marks.

You could try some wet/dry sandpaper with a great deal of water. Start wiping in large circles with lots of water and move down to smaller and smaller circles. After you get to tiny, tiny circles at the same rate as it dissipates then it shouldn't leave any marks.

Hand-buff wax should work similar. It starts out with larger grains that break down as you buff the area.

If you want to create a small baffle that extends over the exhaust tips, you should be able to pick up some light stainless or aluminum at your local hardware store. Just use tin shears to cut it into a squared shape that will fit over the tips and extend a little further. Drill holes toward the front end of the box and use steel wire to tie it up to the exhaust just before the tips. (I'm assuming you have the double exhaust still.) It should look like the top of a box over the tips with the end cutout.

Thanks. I have a silver gsx. I have HKS exhaust. Its not that close to the bumper though. I do have some serious boost leaks that I haven't got a chance to get to yet. I got a big 16g that pulls at 5000 rpms.

Thats your problem right there! They will cause you to run very rich and leave the carbon build up on your bumper. Once you get it off this time, just whipe it off when you wash your car with some paper towel. As long as it doesnt sit on there for too long it should come off easily.

if you do decide to wet-sand it, make sure to use fine grit sandpaper. i beleive its 1500 grit sandpaper. i used to work after hours at a body shop when i hit the front end of my car into a jag. yeah a jag.

but yeah. double check on that to make sure. then after you wet sand, get a buffer with compound and wax. compound it with a medium compound and then a coat of wax. will look better then the rest of the paint on your car.

might wanna wax the whole thing! LOL i would.:D

There is a trick that I use when I go camping that might work in this situation.

When you cook over a fire, the bottom/outside of the pan turns black with carbon buildup. This, like the carbon on your car, is a pain to get off.

Instead, before I cook, I rub a little bit of dish soap on the outside of the pot. It doens't burn. When you go to clean it, the soap dissolves and the carbon flakes right off.

I don't know how often it rains there, because it would need reapplied after every rains. But it would be a temporary fix after you get the carbon off and before you get the time/money to fix the exhaust.

That sounds like an awesome idea, but I've heard bad things about washing your car with dish soap(too aggressive), let alone letting it sit on the clear coat.

Maybe using parifin wax would work instead. Just rub some wax on (similar to candle wax, but smoother), then you could scrape it off occasionally? It might just end up collecting more dirt, though, and it might not even come off too easy.
