As far as I knew the price for either a DSM or Evo valve were more comparable than that. Where are you looking?

They do have different part numbers, I would have guessed they're the same units though. To be honest I think this is a deal for Evo owners. Can't think of why our OEM valve would not be up to the task.

I'm not sure if it's going to be a matter of holding capacity rather than longevity. From my experience a pcv either works or it doesn't. Not much of an in between zone. But I'm curious to know, too.
 
I've done research and bought the Evo valves years ago. They're the exact same valve/spring/ball except for the (yellow/gold) extension at the end of the valve. Everything else is the same. I did like the idea of the extension acting like a splash shield for the inside of the valve cover. I did not, however, notice any difference whatsoever when looking in my catch can at all the nasty blow-by. The Evo valve clogged up with blow-by just like the 2G valve did - no more, no less.
