What about turbos that do not have grinding done on the shaft nut- can you confirm that those turbos are component-balanced only?

The amount of imbalance can vary. Sometimes no additional balancing is needed.

Thanks, the porting took awhile but is was kinda fun and satisfying.

so after much thought and working with some of my friends and their connections I might be getting the turbo balanced and rebuilt for free by a close friend of a friend who worked at Garrett for a long time and has his own business working with companies like forced performance and others building and balancing turbos. He also builds many hybrid turbos for supras etc.
Its good to have friends who know people...

Ill be sure to try and ask him what he thinks in terms of if i really need to balance it. I guess there is some balance spec(correct me if im wrong) on balancing turbos and toyota specs their turbos to be within 12grams per lb and he brings his to 2. So it will hopefully be really well balanced.

Can anyone explain this balancing measurement? I may have it wrong but it sounds weird.

Ill let ya know how it turns out and what he says in terms of the whole balancing thing.

Wow its been a while but all went well, the turbo is great, spools a bit quicker and full boost sooner and hits harder with not creep.
Now i need a new rear drivers side hub as i bent it in the last snow hitting a curb at about 25mph. I NEEED a a hub so if anyone can help me source one that would be awesome. I have called around to many places and its proving hard to find one this is all i need to get my baby back up and running. its been sitting in the garage for 3 months because i havent been able to find one yet.

Sounds like you've been looking in all the wrong places. Call your local dealership and order one in.
