Evo3 16G! How to make it sound louder spoiling?

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

Leave the fridge door open with the turbo hanging out. When you open the door you will find that the turbo has spoiled and the loud clunk will make the spoiled turbo sound much louder.

I was going to say, get an intake pipe and you should be able to hear it scream. but you have one. I had a small 16g, ebay intake pipe and at 14 psi it was very loud, when I switched to my slowboy 50 trim and and 18 psi with a 4'' FP intake pipe it was pretty quiet, I thought it was going to scream like an 18 wheeler but no. I dont know why. Good luck, hope you get it to be louder, thats just one of the sexiest sounds on earth!

Hey guys...I know this may be a little off topic and I apologize ahead of time if it upsets anyone, but I really could use some help on my car. I have recently acquired a 1990 Plymouth Laser RS Turbo FWD w/95,000 original miles. The car is completely stock and all the upkeep has been kept and documented for this car. My questions start here, what is the factory boost level of these cars and what is the boost cap the ecu can handle before needing fuel injectors/pump or aftermarket tuning. What are some of the basic mods you can do to achieve a few more hp. I know of basics like exhaust and intake, but I mean other tricks. I know that the BOV on these cars are talked highly of, but I would like to make it a little louder and was told Forge Motorsports makes an aftermarket recirculating BOV that should increase the sound, any opinions here? Like I said, I want to make a few mods and up the boost just a few pounds, but nothing that will require aftermarket tuning. Again thank you for your assistance everyone.

Thanks man...I've been doing a lot of reading once I realized what I was buying...the only thing I'm having a problem with is I keep reading different things LOL. For example, the factory boost question...I've read multiple numbers ranging from 7.5 to 13...I've actually just figured I'd average them out and take that as the answer LOL. I just know a lot of guys do a lot of different things and go different ways, so I was needing tips on what I can do that won't require tuning...

Im guessing you have a stock boost gauge? if you do, get an after market one, they are not that expensive. Just get a good boost source from your intake mani. if your boos levels are still fluctuating something might be wrong with your waste gate (corect me if im wrong) your psi should be set at 14 psi if you are running stock fuel system. There should not be a an average psi you ether run 10, 14, 18, or 30. but set at one of those psi not all of them at different time of the day. Makes sense?

Yeah, I was just reading the "Common Mistakes by new DSM'ers" page LOL. I don't know what my factory boost is set at, that is why I was asking what these cars were set from from the factory because this car has not been touched performance wise...it still has the factory air box for crying out loud LOL. I have plans on an aftermarket boost gauge as well as an A/F gauge.

Forget the a/f gauge its almost useless. Boost gauge, oil pressure gauge, water temp gauge, wideband o2 kit(LC-1), hard intake piping, new spark plugs and wires, quality air filter(K&N, Spectre, etc), 3" exhaust with cat delete or high flow cat if you have emissions, new brakes, REPLACE YOUR COOLANT LINES ALL OF THEM, quality oil and filter change.

Think maintenance, support, tuning,.then boost.
Factory boost should be about 12#s.

Ok, so how many lbs. of boost can I run safely before hitting fuel cut? Here are the mods I have planned out so far: New NGK Copper Spark Plugs, Air Intake Tube, K & N Air Filter, 3" downpipe (open), Wideband 02 (What is LC-1?), Boost Gauge, and maybe a manual boost controller if I can up the boost without having issues. Like I said, this car has been very well taken care of and I have all the documentation for the last 1k mile tune-up.

Ok, well I don't own a lap top and I have no clue what DSM link means? I'm also wanting to upgrade to an aftermarket BOV, but one that is still a recirculating so that I gain a litte of that "whoosh" sound, but don't loose driveability.

Well put.

Ok, well I'm not planning on going into the ECM and doing any tuning. This is a daily driver and not going to be a race car for a long time LOL. All I'm wanting to do is gain a few hp and up the boost to like 14psi-15psi if it's safe and if the car can handle it as if it were on 12psi. I mean, I just want to do the simplist of mods that will not require aftermarket fuel pumps/injectors or doing any tuning of any kind.

This should help a little.

You say that now. Give it a few psi more.....and you WILL want more.

Thanks hot rod...I've been reading that chart very carefully for the past week now LOL. Can anyone tell me that if I have done an aftermarket exhaust, air intake, have a boost gauge, and a wide-band 02...how many lbs of boost can I run that will not require tuning? I called someone from "forge motorsports" and they said that I need to now the factory boost level and what the "Boost Cap" was for the factory ECM.

The only thing Hot Rod is that I can't go for more, I bought this as a daily for my family but I'm one of those guys who can't own a car without doing at least a few of the basic mods LOL. That is why I'm trying to get the most power out of it without spending a ton of money or making it blow LOL.

Like said the stock boost level is about 12 psi..There is no "boost cap".I thnk you may be putting too much brain effort into this. And coming from me, well..

And once you hit 12 psi, it wont stay there for long..:tease:

You said "it won't stay there for long", what do you mean by that? And by "Boost Cap" I think he meant the amount of boost the factory tuning on the ECM can handle before hitting fuel cut. I've read on a lot of forums that guys recommend anywhere from 14-16psi safely?

Thanks node, but that isn't exactly the help I'm looking for here

Meaning you'll want more faster then you think. Boost is a drug.

I fully agree with you guys...i will want more, but I know that I can't afford to push more. I already have one street/drag car and that has consumed enough funds LOL...this car is meant to be a daily driver with a little kick to it LOL
