EVO3 16G Full boost at 4500 RPM?

I am all stock on the fuel and exhaust. (completely stock, not even re-wire FP).

I have an EVO3 16G. It spools kinda slow. Hits full boost at about 4500 RPM.

Well depends on what my boost is set at. This is when it was at 16lbs. I turned it down to 10 for now till I get supporting mods. I don't remember what it hits 10 lbs at. I think maybe about 3500 or so.

Is this normal when your car is stock?
(only mods are MBC, hacked aircan with K&N FIlter).

Well I I have PTE 650's and a 190 not rewired and I can run 20psi to redline and have enough fuel according to my 02 sensor my log. .94 volts to redline. I get some knock but I think it's because my smic. While the 02 might not be super accurate I'm guessing it's not dropping much fuel.

Once I get my FMIC airflow should increase and hopefully I'll still have enought fuel. A 190 rewired should have no problems at all though with a EVOIII turbo.
 
Thats what I thought. But it seems everyone keeps saying 650's and a 255. I think I'm just gonna try for the 190 re-wired and see how it goes. Start small and work my way up, and see what happens. I imagine I'll end up with a 255 sooner or later, but if I don't NEED it right now, I'm not going to get it. Thanks for the help.

Yeh you should be fine with the 190 rewired. Even if you get the 255, dont worry bout the FPR. i am running a SAFC2, evo III 16 G, 660cc injectors, and a 225 and no FPR. i just had a tuner i know tune it all to perfection and im running great.
 
Im on a 14b, and i get full boost around 4k too. Stock exhaust and fuel system. Im trying to do everything I can to get a quicker spool so i can launch with a good amount of psi.
 
Uh, get the FPR. I've been running a 255 HP with rewire, and no AFPR.. terrible, horrible problems. Since it's 8psi over stock, the injectors are essentially pumping in 30% more fuel with each cycle, making it run horribly rich. Thick black soot inside the tailpipe, BRIGHTLY glowing exhaust manifold (as unburnt fuel exits and is ignited by the heat of the manifold and turbo)...

And don't bother with a VPC, just grab a MAFT and 3" GM MAS. Roughly the same cost, roughly the same tunability, but MUCH, MUCH better intake flow. Not to mention the option to atmo-vent.
 
This is going to sound weird, but my T25 didn't spool until around 2750 to 3000RPMs, after I bought new lifters..it was reduced to somewhere in the 2000 - 2250 range...I'd be willing to bet your problem is boost leaks.

well the FPR is alwyas the best idea, i was just saying its not a MUST. like i said im not running stock injectors, and i had a tune. its just another alternative. i mean im geting 27 mpg with 660ccs with no FPR...IMO if you dont have the extra cash to spend on one, you can makde due without it.
 
Well since I first started this post, some things have changed:

I had a bad TPS, just finally got around to taking care of it. Back when i posted this, it wasn't throwing an CEL.

I turned my boost down to 10 lbs. cause running all stock fuel w/EVO3 16G@16 lbs. is asking for problems.

The car runs like a raped ape compared to before (with a bad TPS).

It wasn't just that it wouldn't reach full boost till 4500 RPM, it was also taking forever to get there.

Also I had a bad waterpump, and believe it or not it was slowing it down a little, I guess that the pully would rub and cause resitance. Cause it finally gave out, and the engine revved alot easier after that! Weird I know I never thought it would slow a car down like that. When it broke, it sounded like I had rocks in the engine. Does that sound right? Busted water pump sounding like gravel in the engine?



I'm still all stock fuel for now. Got bills to pay and things are tight right now.
