EVO IX wheels or keep my aftermarket ADR wheels??

I came across a guy in the area (while trying to trade my Black ADR Vision wheels with tires) who has a set of Evo IX wheels he bought off his buddys Evo 9 which now owns a Skyline r32....he doesnt want to trade being that he drives a 240sx(the evo wheels were on a mazda 3)

so i was wondering what i should do?? i fell in LOOOVE with the way the Evo IX wheels look on 2g's after seeing them on gofers red 2g and on KelTsi90's Tsi and ill be painting them black but i dont want to regret selling my set of black 18 inch ADR Vision wheels cause the definitely are nice wheels but weight a ton with tires and i was wanting a smaller wheel and the Evo wheels are alot stealthier than my glossy black wheels with polished lip

man gofer that has to be one of the best ass shots ive ever seen! im actually getting my exhaust just like that and if i get enough for my wheels im going wingless.

they look like they fit perfectly in the wheel wells, i know i wont have a problem in the rear but my front is pretty low..you think ill have an issue?(look at my pics for example) right now im running 225/40/18.

and how did you paint yours?? cause i was just going to do it myself

you won't be able to run a 245/40 tire on the evo rims with that slammed of a suspension (i had to "lift" my car to run mine) you can stretch a 225 tire on a IX wheel (i did) so id say run a 225/40/17 if you get IX wheels.
powder coated, not painted. if/when you get the rims they'll more than likely come with tires that are bald or no tires at all. then is the perfect time to get them powder coated and its not that expensive. expect to pay about $50 a wheel for the pc and you should be able to find evo IX wheels for $250 - $300 for all 4. when you do get them you CANNOT run the same lug nuts you run with your tuner wheels, they must be FLAT (with a washer) OEM lug nuts or you'll tear up the rim.

damn...that makes me kinda iffy about it now..i thought i read somewhere that these wheels originally came with 235/45/17...

he said $500 without tires but i told him no more than $300 and he said he'd lower price if i pay cash...

it is pretty slammed especially up front but there is exactly 1 finger wheel gap between tire and fender if this helps

were yours 225/40/17 at first?? i dont know about this anymore..if i run 225/40/17 on the Evo wheels will they look weird like they dont fit right or will i run into any problems? i heard its illegal for a shop to stretch a tire on a wider wheel..most wont do it..

and would i be able to use the oem eclipse lug nuts off my stock 14's?

KelTsi90 told me he ran 235 and his car rubbed sometimes and now runs 225/45/17 and he said it fits perfectly...but again with the tire stretching question...that cant be safe to run 224/40/17 on the evo wheel

I can see the dilemma. I've seen cars with both of these wheels that look really nice, but performance would be the deciding factor for me. Evo wheels would be my choice, but probably not painted black. I say keep them stock. I formerly ran 235/45/17s on 17x8 +38offset wheels (same as Evo) on my 2Gb Talon. There was minimal contact with the lip of the rear fender after rolling it. Car was lowered about 1-2" from stock on true coilovers. If you're concerned with clearance, use 225/45/17s, they are fine for an 8" wide wheel.

exactly! its such a hard decision but im leaning alot towards the Evo wheels...im just trying to get my ADR's sold..the only problem is this issue with fitment and rubbing if i get the Evo wheels..but i think im test fitting them tomorrow.

yeah i want the Evo's cause i love the look alot better..plus performance wise my 18's are heavy as tits.

and i cant stand stock color silver wheels haha bronze looks amazing but black is my choice

they do come with 235/45/17's OEM which means you'd rub like a badass with OEM evo tires.

$300 for the rims is a good deal, one dollar more though and id keep looking around... they're OEM! those evo guys can be so proud of their stuff sometimes.

a 1 finger wheel gap is 1 finger more then i had with my old suspension setup.

in my calendar picture, in ALL my photo gallery pictures actually, my tires are 225/40/17 and firestone didn't blink when i asked them to put them on. they didn't looked stretched and retarded (i know what your talking about)

yes! use your OEM lug nuts. you don't need evo lug, just don't use the lugs that are currently holding your tuner wheels on.

I rubbed only on extremely hard suspension compression in the rear, and only rubbed about 5-7mm of the very edge of the tread and sidewall. I probably could have rolled the fenders a little more and cleared. I used Falken ZE-912 tires which had an actual tread width of 8.5 inches and a section width of 9.4 inches, unlike true 235's which would be a section width of only 9.25". You need to check the manufacturer specs on the actual width of the tire you'll use before you can tell how much clearance you will or won't have.

That may work as far as fitment, but it is going to affect the speedometer and gas mileage adversely. The closest size to stock in a 225 width and 17" diameter is 225/45/17.

i could have sworn my tires were 225/40's but let me dig up some old pictures and ill let you know, im at work so you'll have to wait a few hours. while im digging up old pictures ill get you a few of the fitment of the 225/40 or 45's? on the front. whatever size they were! haha. now you've got me wondering because its not like i was running a special tire.

Nothing will pose a problem. Most 225 tires are recommended to be mounted to a rim with a width between 6-8".

I run 225/45/17 on an 8.5" rim. Prefect fit. No stretch, no poke.

and Delta448 thank you for all your help! right now mine are 18x7.5 and i have 225/40/18 so i really dont see how 225/45/17 would be an issue on a 17x8 wheel

on the red talon?? those look super wide in the front..and your 1g isnt as low as my 2g..like i said i have 1 finger gap..

and now the question of the 225/45/17 fitting on the evo wheel isnt really the problem..the problem is will this setup cause problems on the front with 1 finger gap between tire and fender?? the 225/40/18's i have are tucked right in the fender and i never rubbed.

How's the rear look? Usually the problems with clearance are in the back because of the metal flange that hangs down. Those 245's look perfect up front!
