Hey guys, I recently purchased a block from someone local. It ends up that it is a 7 bolt Evo block from the Evo I-III. Its the one with the oil squirters instead of the jets. So I'm wondering if these are less effected by crank walk because of the squirters. Also, where can I order bearings for the engine? Everything I've seen is either 7 bolt with the thrust washer, or without the thrust washer. I just don't want to buy the wrong parts. Thanks, Cj.

To my knowledge the Evo I-III came with the 6-bolt and after that they started using the 7-bolt engines. You can check the vendor section of this site, there are tons of seller you can buy the bearings from. I recommended checking out Maperformance, Extremepsi, and Streettunedmotorsports. They always have what I'm looking for.

Well your knowledge is just flat wrong.

Nearly all the evos had 7 bolt engines. There may have possibly been a few 92 evolution I that had six bolts. But 99% of them had 7 bolts as they did not go into production until 92.

Evo I was 92-94

Evo II was 92 - 95

Evo III was 95- Mid 96

Are you positive its an evolution block and not a 1g 7 bolt? There's a spot on the block that has the Vin stamped on it you could decode the it and know for sure what its from.

You'll need a set of main bearings for a 7 bolt with a one piece non-split thrust bearing. Same as any 7 bolt 92-97 DSM.
Awesome, thank you! The exact info I was needing!

I cant find a VIN anywhere on the block, but I will have the pistons on Monday. And the guy I got it from says the pistons have more letters/numbers (63DTH1) than the OEM 2g pistons. He searched the numbers, and he said they are Evo I-III pistons.

Good info, thank you! Wish I had an Evo III...

I am the guy that sold him the block a couple weeks ago. I bought a 2g gst that a guy was going to scrap about a year ago, but before I took the car I stripped everything that could be used/sold or that was any good. When I got the car it had been sitting with the head off of it for some time but I figured that I might rebuild it one day for a small profit. Well long story short, I ended up saling just the block to him. All he wanted was the block so everything else was stripped off it. When he got the block he noticed it had oil squirters, and me being a 1g guy I never paid it any mind when they were taken out. Anyway, after searching for days we finally figured out it was a evo 1-3 block because, the trans of the block has a extra hole and flat spot like the 2g 7 bolt, it has 1g type oil squirters, and I google the number on the pistons and it came up to be a early evo piston, and also the evo girdle is a little beefier than the 2g. Since we had so much trouble I am sending him everything that came out of the block so he can get his car back together. Just wanted to post this up here for future references incase anyone else runs into this problem. I sure wish it was here when I was searching LOL.

Whats up James? I've been searching info about the early Evo blocks since you figured out it was for sure an Evo block. Definitely wanted to find you what type of bearings I can use. Almost everywhere you look online sends you back and forth, and the subject causes lots of arguing, hahaha. I really appreciate you looking all over and finding out what the deal was with the block. Cj.

I believe it is the single bearing (or whatever the early 2g 7 bolts used) but I am not 100% sure. I believe the bearings are in the stuff I sent you. I just grabbed everything off of the table and sent it to you LOL.

I have my block on the stand right now. I used the 92.5-97 bearings with the 1 piece center main/thrust bearing.

I had to remove the oil squirters to clear the 100mm stroke crank

Alrighty. Thanks again for helping me out so much, I honestly appreciate it. After all that searching, we both know you really aren't crazy, hahaha.

Stock 2G pistons would say 63DTF1, so same amount of letters, just F instead of H. The H would confirm that it is indeed an early Evo piston, but compression ratio is same as 2G at 8.5:1.

Also just to add some later EVO 3's came with 9.0:1 compression.
