I am going to get some H&R 15mm wheel spacers that come with extended studs and have read to only use the OEM style lug nut on the Evo Enkeis. They are a closed style lug nut so I assume they will bottom out before tightening. Is there an open oem style lug nut that can be used?

Yes. Search.

STM: NRG INNOVATIONS LIGHTWEIGHT RACING LUG NUTS | M12 x 1.5

Anywhere has them. ExtremePSI will have a more open selection.

Those are tuner style. They are no good for oem enkeis they have the wrong taper.
NRG Innovations aluminum lug nuts M12 x 1.5.

Made of super lightweight forged aluminum for strength and less weight. Knurled ends for easy hand tightening, narrowed head for easy installation onto wheel studs. Fits most aftermarket and performance wheels. Will not work with stock wheels.

Price is for a set of 20.

I was going to go with 255/40/17's and use the wheels and tires as my track set. If I would have thought it out before buying the wheels I would have just gone with a 17x9 +25mm Rota wheels because the price almost equals out considering I would not need spacers and could go with some 265/40/17's.

What type of lug nut seat do the FD's have, Tom?

Factory Mitsubishi wheels require a lug nut like the one on the right. If your wheels don't have a flat seat, then you don't want to use them. If it's a tapered seat, then you can use the tuner style on the left.

FD wheels use an acorn style lug nut ("tuner" style). OEM Mitsu wheels use a mag seat washer style nut. My '06 Civic uses ball seats. You need to be very careful to always use the correct type for your wheels.

You also want to make sure the center bore of the wheel fits the hub on the car. I've seen DSMs using OEM Honda/Acura wheels, which have a smaller bore, and they were sitting on the hub leaving a big gap between the wheel and the rotor hat! FD wheels have the same 67.1mm hub size as Mitsu.

To answer the original question, you can get open ended OEM style lug nuts. There are aftermarket options, or you can use the ones from a '90-91 Eclipse. They have a large center cap that covers the lug area, so they came with open ended nuts.

Enkeis work with these :
STM: MUTEKI SR48 EXTENDED LUG NUTS | BURNING BLUE NEON | 32906UN | 32905UN

I went with something else - black coated, where the black coating turned out to be NASTY.
I'll post the link when I find it.

These are 17mm, so they work with every wheel I've run into - there are many wheels which can't accommodate 19mm or 21mm sockets, so these are great because they work with everything.

This sucks...Purchased some Gorilla Tuner lugs from STM not knowing they wouldnt work with my EVO 8 wheels. I guess I never noticed the (Not for stock wheels) at the bottom of the description.

Well, they will physically work (I ran OEM wheels with tuner lug nuts for a while before I knew any better), but it is not optimal by any means and should not be done. I was lucky enough to not run into any issues.

Did the same thing before i knew any better and never ran into any problems, even though i drag the car.

I do not recommended though!!!

The OEM Open Lug part # is MB579420

If you are looking for aftermarket lugs Gorilla has the Toyota style as well, but they are closed ended:
Chrome: 73137T or 73138T
Black Chrome: 73137TBC or 73138TBC

So did I. I was using the "tuner" style lug nuts with a set of Enkei EVO VIIII wheels. I never even noticed the difference till I went to take the wheels off and found that the lug nuts were stuck in the wheel and had started to pull through the bolt holes. I glad that they never pulled all the way through having the wheel fall off. After a call to JNZTuning, I found out that the EVO 9 Enkies needed a different lug nut.
