Evo 9 Wheels and 245 tires with 2GA (95-96) Knuckles?

So i was just reading thru the handling thread on the main forum and someone mentioned you have to run gb knuckles on a 2ga in order to run evo 9 wheels with 245's...

I am currently running evo 9 wheels with 245's. How can i tell the difference from the knuckles. I just pickedthis car up a couple weeks ago.

Does anyone know of a picture or have one of a ga/gb knuckle next to one another?

245 shouldnt be a problem. My friend is running evo 9 bbs on his 2ga and didnt have any problems with 245s. However he did switch over to some 255s and he is now rubbing on decel.

Do we all know what 2Ga or 2Gb means? It's not Georgia/Great Britain.
2G = 2nd generation
a = 95-96
b = 97-99

245s should fit fine with either rear knuckle. The clearance difference is less than 4mm between the two designs. I've used a grinder to make more of a difference than 4mm.

Yes im pretty sure we know what the 2ga and 2gb mean.....i was just reading a post on the nadling section and someone there mentioned about having to use 2gb knuckles in order to run evo9 wheels on a 95-96...

How wide are the bbs evo 9's

They are 17 x 8.

What's the offset on the wheels you're looking at? As far as I'm aware, the 8's and 9's both used a 17x8"+35mm wheel. A 17x9 +35 wheel with a 245 tire will fit a 97+, and that's with 0.5" less clearance on the inside. Unless your tires are of a larger diameter than stock, you shouldn't have trouble on the inside, only on the fender.

Well my question, as stated above is what is the difference and or does any one have pictures of the a/b knuckles side by side. I am currently like mentioned above, on evo 9 wheels with 245/45/17 tires all the way around, but in the handling section somone had posted you cannot run this size on this wheel on a 95-96 with out swapping to 97-99 knuckles.

So i am curious as to if the the previous owner has already swapped knuckles before putting this wheel and tire combo on..

They were wrong.

There is no really obvious difference between the knuckles unless you have them both in front of you. Just a slight difference in the curved part.

So if i swap to 97-99 knuckles i can run 9" wide wheel with no issues with a 245 tire?

Depends on the offset (as always).

But why run a 245 when you've got a 9" wheel if you're interested in handling? You should be looking to run a 255. At that point, yes, you'd need the 2gb knuckle and a bit of fender rolling with the proper offset to make sure it clears everything in the back.

I've been running Evo 8 wheels with a 245 tire and don't have any rubbing on the knuckle. I do have one tire (driver rear) rubbing on the fender. I would not be able to bolt up my brother's 17x9 +35 wheel with 255's as it would hit on the 2ga knuckle. It clears his 2gb knuckle (rubs on one of the fenders though).
