Im doing Evo 9 pistons on 1g rods. The question is how much PTW clearance should i run. I know its a forged piston, so should i run it similar to say wiesco or JE? Im still waiting on my order that i placed from dsmgraveyard on the 3rd of the month:banghead:, hopefully i receive it soon as my machinist is waiting. Anyone with an evo 9 internal setup please chime in,

.0016 inches. suposively your safe to run a bit over if you want. i have built 2 engines that had the 6-bolt evo-9 piston setup and all are still running perfect. one is a 15psi DD and the other is running 23psi on race gas. never had a problem. the valve reliefs are backwards to your oem pistons. the dots on the evo-9 piston head needs to face the timing belt. the piston is offset .040.

I got a set of 6 bolt rods and evo 9 pistons from them after waiting 3 months and then I had Street and strip check them out and come to find out my wrist pin whole was drilled crooked.... FML so after ruining my new evo 9's due to breaking them when we were pressing them off the rods because the wrist pin whole was drilled wrong I had to start fresh... With no help from the dsm graveyard warranting any of there work and refusing me for a refund and after sending them in they would not fix them I had to start all over this time with Street and Strip.... so best of luck with your piston rod combo... and good luck receiving them anytime soon... but other then that there spec page is right on Piston to wall clearance and I love my evo 9 and 6 bolt rods with my holset...

So how does the motor feel compared to a stock rebuild? wow, ive been told weekly that it will be here that week, that was 3 weeks ago and still waiting. I guess they ran out of there custom graveyard moto rings, so i had to pay extra for the OEM ones and they just came in today, i hope the ship it express like other vendors do when the mess up?

those custom graveyard rings are actually hasting rings that they get from PERFIT and they piece together a 4 kits to make one... that is why they are so expensive... and yes Jon@the dsm graveyard will throw you every excuse he has that why the pistons rod combo has not gone out yet... so be ready to here some more BS tomorrow and all next week... If you get them before then you got lucky.. and most likely they will be sent priority mail and be sure to check them over really really good. They have had a few customers send them back because they were thrown in a box minus the shipping material and were all beat to hell by the time they got there..

O yah othere then that I love the way my motor feels and the way it sounds... here was my build

I already started one, but once again just waiting on Dsmgraveyard. At least slowboy expedited my shipping when they messed up and i still got it 6 days after ordering it. Well hopefully i have my stuff before the end of this month. BTW how did you have better spool times with the more compression?

not to bump off topic but i was told the evo ix pistons are not fully forged, that they are a 2-piece design with only the tops being forged. is this true?

I've heard that they are not fully forged as well.

If the price of these pistons and rings were anywhere close to what a proven forged piston was, I'd just go that route.

Hmm i have not heard that, i will have to look into it. To me they looked fully forged, but i could be wrong.

nope they are not fully forged... but now you have to look at it as with the more EXpensive OEM rings compared to hte dsm graveyard so called custom rings from hastings you could of went with a Manley piston and rod combo for like 75 bucks more...

yeah i know, i wish i would have. Im about to order some mahle pistons? I really wanted to do the OEM style rebuild with the good stuff.
