Is it possible to put EVO 8 or 9 valves into a 2g or even a 1g DSM head? I know you can put EVO 8 springs and retainers into the head. I searched around and couldn't find anything but I'm curious. Thanks.

The stock one's are usually recommended because they are lighter and have sodium filled valves to help with heat dissipation.

Haha thanks, I rarely re-read my posts.

The only drawback of the sodium filled exhaust valves is if there is ever any piston to valve interface the sodium filled exhaust valves will break rather than bend.
Evo's inheritantly run less compression height than DSM's.
So there's a little more clearance right off the bat.
OEM DSM pistons have a compression height of ~35mm where the Evo's are somewhere around 34.5mm.
This is one reason why DSM's can run Evo IX pistons with the smaller exhaust valve reliefs on the larger intake valve side of the head.

someone already managed to put the valves in the 1g head ?
can tell us if there was trouble?

I can say that Evo valves have been used in a 1g head and in the particular config there were no problems and the engine's been very reliable in open track racing. I dunno if I can say anything further unless the owner speaks up.

I was under the impression both intake and exhaust valves from the Evo 8/9 were sodium-filled. :hmm: Oops.

Darn expensive brand new. Definitely need to go used on this part.

EVO Sodium Filled Exhaust Valves

Quick question - can you use these exhaust valves as replacement intake valves?

You also running with Evo rods?

Negative.
Stock intake valve seats are cut for a 34mm diameter intake valve.
The sodium filled exhaust valve is only 30.5mm in diameter.

I read on Tuners that the USDM Evo VIII/IX connecting rods and 7-bolt DSM conrods are essentially the same.
The major difference in the ability of the stock Evo 7-bolt to hold more power is the 1mm wrist pin offset in the piston.
This offset lessens the angle ever so slightly when the connecting rod is pushing the piston up during combustion.
This slightly less of an angle reduces the forces the connecting rod goes thru so the rod does not get worked and fatigued as hard as it would pushing a DSM piston around which does not have a 1mm offset wrist pin.

can they be made to fit??, yes they can, it would not be cheap, as all new seats would have to be installed in the intake side.

so to me it would be counterproductive to do...

but as pointed out above, the head dia is smaller, so that would kill the flow thu the head
