The guy I picked up my 97 tsi from started an evo 8 hid conversion. He installed the balast thru the headlight housing (oem housing not projectors) and pretty much stopped there. I plan on getting projector lenses soon but right now I just need light of any kind to drive after 5pm!!
1) what plugs into the balast?
2) the yellow circle: looks like a grounding point. But to where?
3) that big plug has the red and black wires (purple) from the high beam and the green wire (circled in pink) going to it. But the green wire is not connected to anything ?
Will these even work? I couldnt find a how to for an evo 8 hid swap. If I missed it, please link me!

. You could also pickup a pair of aftemarket halogen projector headlamps and use a rebased hid kit with it. Youll achieve a lot less glare this way but the light quality wont be nearly as good as a real retrofit. Some might not recommend this method because the halogen projectors sometimes cant handle the heat from the bigger hid bulb. I've pereonally never had a problem with this. Ddm tuning makes a decent quality kit (when referring to rebased kits), they also sell relay harnesses so you won't be drawing power from the stock headlamp harness. It really just depends how into lighting you are, I currently have a retro on my 1g ( euro lights w/rdx d2s projectors, Lexus 35w ballasts) and the light quality is unmatched in comparison to many other factory hid cars. Plenty of info out there on retros, I can go on and on
