sooo i was wondering if the evo 8/9 gm 3port boost solenoid adapter harness will plug into the 2g's? im deciding to go sd, n ecu boost control. going to be a pain because im starting from scratch with the rom and i already have 1050cc, and getting have a new fmic set up along with the piping haha. just my luck huh. sold my stockers n my evo 560's
im thinking i mite use the maf scaling from my previous car since it was decent on my car, or do you guys/gals think i should just use the stock 2g maf scaling and hone in the injectors. trust me i know this is the worse was i could possibly approach this.

how close to your last car is this car in mods? if it were me i think what i would do is leave the intercooler and piping you have in your car for now unless what you are putting on this car is simular, then use the MAF scaling you used the last time (that way you know you are starting with something that worked well). tune in your injectors, then swap your intercooler. re-adjust/fine tune for that, then work your SD table from there.

i/c cores leaking... so thats why im changing it...
you know what.. LOL ill just get it running properly on maf first.. just a pain because i never fully dialed in the injectors even using the scalings i found on evom. ill see how it goes and let you know the results.

I just got an Evo 8 ecu today. We set a base line evo rom with a 2g maf. I'm going sd after we set a tune on my car. Will the GM 3.3 bar map work? I know the 3 bar will with no problems. But there isnt much on the 3.3 bar one.

Ok - so ive got a few questions. Ive been running with the evo ecu in my car for 2 months, and in terms of drivability i havent had any problems at all. but now that im starting to finish the car - id like some help with these DTC's i have:

First -im on the 96530706 rom

1:p0125 Insufficient Coolant Temperature for Closed Loop Fuel Control
Ive been doing a lot of reading on that error code with modded roms and from what ive read - it might have to do with the rear o2 being removed/disabled/patched. Im still looking into this but havent found a fix that worked for me yet. Also - after logging my temps, the coolant is 205 to 215.

2: P0622 Generator Field F Control Circuit Malfunction
Theres not much info on this code over at evom, but in this thread i have read the suggestion that it could be because of the DSM having a smaller alternator then the evo. Im looking more into doing the saturn alt swap to try and fix that problem.

3: In evoscan, i scanned the MutII codes, and it came back with this:
Diagnostic Codes:Knock sensor
Ignition coil
Ignition circuit

i have absolutely no clue what could be bad with those - as my car runs fine, the knock sensor works as its supposed to, and i have no spark/timing issues.

Thanks a lot for the help guys!

JamiesTSI:

I have, but im going to to reset them all back to the rom defaults and start over. Now that ive passed emissions i dont really care if the cel comes on.

knochgoon24:

I guess i wont waste my money on an alt then...do you know what bits you changed to get the code to go away? i didnt see it defined in the rom/ecuflash im using.

Well, i might not have to worry about it...but i dont know if i need to buy a alt or bat.

a while ago my alt died, so i replaced it with one i pulled off of another car. well, since then the batt + parking light are 'half on' until like 3500rpm, and i never thought about it because the car was running fine. but again - since im trying to figure out all these electrical gemlins now, i searched it and, well idk if my alt or battery is dying.

Evoscan has the battery level at like 12-13v at idle, 13-14 in load, but once the car is shut off, the voltage quickly drops to 11.5-12.3...maybe this code is legit after all.

Hortanica:

Sounds like your Alt. Is working based on the voltages you posted. I would look into the battery. With nothing attached to it the battery should be around 12.6 volts. You may have a bad cell or something is drawing the charge off when the car is not running.

If you want list your periphery tables or send me your rom and I will compare my tables to yours. I have no CEL on either my 97 or 92 talon based on how my periphery tables are set.

heres my periphery bit tables. and im gonna replace the battery + probably move it to the trunk this weekend, hopefully replacing it will fix some of my problems

EDIT: so while i was working with the car today i actually found a ground (looked like a sensor ground not connected due to the 4-5 wires coming off of it...) not connected up by the CPS/coil pack. so i grounded that and drove the car around, and now the only DTC code im getting is the P0125 - ins coolant temps. so hopefully getting the periphery tables setup right will fix that issue.

Also - now that i connected that ground, the MUTII EFI is giving me:

Code:
Reading MUTII DTCs for EcuID:E4BD
Updated: 20:19:41
Diagnostic Codes:Knock sensor
Injector circuit
Fuel pump relay
EGR sensor
Ignition coil
Ignition circuit

Now - are these codes legit, or are they there because of its a dsm w/ the evo ecu...and not everything is the same.

The coolant temp sensor issue is not related to the rom IMO. I've certainly never had a problem with it. I would suggest looking into replacing the CTS.

As for the mut codes they seem like they might be legit. My car doesn't show any mut codes.

Try resetting your ecu now that you have that ground hooked up.

Part of me things it is the rom, but the other side is says its the CTS. I think its the rom - because other ppl have had this issue with the rear o2 delete/heater fix.
Also - my coolant temp rises properly and stays around 210.

however - i think theres also an issue with the thermostat. I think it might be stuck open - as it takes forever to build heat in the car. Its also my fault - i needed to replace the t stat a while ago in a hurry and didnt have time to order one - so i just used a duralast one. so im gonna replace that and see what happens.

As for the MUT codes, if your not having them pop up on yours then i will reset the ecu tmrw (replacing the battery) and hope for the best.

Here's how I have my Periphery Tables set. Front and rear O2 removed, running open loop.

So - i just changed all of my periphery tables to mimic yours - and im getting the same code + some LOL. not really new OBD codes, but MUT codes. so i flashed back my original rom and read over what i changed (yeah, i prob should have done that before but...i didnt LOL)

i think the reason you didnt get the code is the reason i didnt get the code for a while - you force open loop all the time, so the ECU never does the closed loop checks, therefore never seeing a problem with the coolant temp/whatever is causing the CEL.

i could be wrong though - can anyone else offer any input on this topic?

I thought the P0125 code had something to do with the rear O2 sensor. Did you do anyhthing with the values under the "Rear O2 Heater Disable" table?

No, p0125 is exactly as he describes it. I used to run closed loop and never had this problem.

Well, im kind of thinking this might not be coolant related to after all.

I stayed up all night last night, and spent most morning looking into this issue, and some people say it could be related to the front 02 sensor.

I also added the 'Min coolant temp for closed loop" table and it was set to 32*F, so im not so sure the code is 100% accurate.

Here is my evo scan log: this is the o2 feedback, coolant temp, and the stft at idle with one blip of the throttle to about 4k rpms halfway through the log. shouldnt the front o2 have more of a 'reaction' then that?

Coolant Temp Scaled is the one you want to log. All the ECU tables run off that.

With your car up to temp (like in your log) you front o2 sensor should by cycling. From the looks of that graph, it's either dead or you're fueling is WAAAAYYYY off.

i wish i had seen that about the coolant scaled...i would have changed that before i logged my car warming up.

im 99% sure i have a bunch of bad sensors....or crap grounds. but i flashed my car last night with my old rom, drove it home and the CEL stayed on. So today i go out, turn it on let it warm up, drive it ~20 miles and no CEL at all...or MUT codes.

EDIT: i completely forgot, but when i first got in the car and started it, my power steering wasnt working. so i turned off the car, got out and checked the ps level..just because i hadnt done it since i got the car on the road and it was fine. So i got back in, started the car and same problem....but i started to notice it was kind of stalling, and my battery+brake light were pulsating. So when i got back out i noticed the alt belt was slipping...a lot. So i tightened that up and all seemed well after...

So - idk whats going on. i just sent my head off for port + assembly so when i get that back, im going to be tearing the car apart and tripple check all of my wiring.

but just because i logged it anyways...heres the car on warmup....

hey guys,

im having an issue with my evo 8 ecu swap into an evo 3.

All the wiring is correct however we are not getting spark on cyl's 2 & 3. I have seen posts of a similar nature on a few of the forums talking about checking out the CAS, ignition module and coil packs however the problem does not persist when i plug back in the stock evo 3 ecu.

Anyone run into something similar?
